So far, Wilkowski seems to be the only one with any sort of solid plans, so he's got my vote.
Sure, Konop has floated a couple of trial balloons, but that whole breaking-the-campaign-pledge thing has taken him off my list of viable candidates. He should just stick with his current job of pissing off his surrogate parents, Tina and Pete.
all of my friends and family are voting for wilkowski, as am i
but like all elections, i'm open to changing my mind up until the last minute.
Snicker.... He was, um,... removed.

Didnt sit well with the moron.
In addition to violating his 2006 ethics pledge, Konop has violated the current clean campaign pledge at least three times, in my opinion:
I'm inspired by Harley's writings. It's time for real change. My suggestion for Covey's campaign slogan:Do the crazy thing and vote for Opal
A vote for Opal is a vote for upheaval. If enough passive anarchists banded together to screw with Toledo politics and voted for Opal, so she finished in the top two in the September primary, then I have no idea what would be accomplished except it would be hilarious. Project Mayhem.
I suppose Moody (R) and Bell (I) will win their primaries.
Who do you think will win in the democratic primary - Wilkowski vs. konop ?
Wilkowski and Bell could split the Democratic vote in November. That might at least keep things interesting, for Moody on election night.
If I'm still living in Toledo come election night, I'll be voting for Wilkowski.
I would NEVER....NEVER vote for konop.
In my opinion, his main objective is to gain some name recognition for himself and Marcy Kaptur's job, when she retires in a few years. If he's Toledo's mayor and he gets to earn $150K a year, he could put $50K a year away, for 4 years and come out with a $200K war-chest of his own (to start things off). In my own opinion, konop is BAD NEWS !!!

WalterAnthony, all the mayoral candidates compete in one primary in September, and the top-two finishers compete in November. The primary is not party-based. So it's possible that Konop and Wilkowski are the September primary "winners," which means they would be the only two names on the November ballot.
I don't believe we have a primary system for Mayor in Toledo. Don't the top two vote getters square off regardless of party?
I don't like that rule at all, for many reasons. - Thanks for pointing it out though.
If that's the case, then maybe the Democratic vote will be so diluted in the primary, among Wilkowski, Collins, Bell and konop, that Moody could garner the 2nd highest number of votes.
That would make for an interesting face-off and series of debates, between Wilkowski and Moody, leading up to the general election.

Heck, let the debates start early! Let em start tomorrow!!
Walter Anthony, you do know that the link you posted about Konop is actually favorable, correct?
Can’t you actually find some real dirt? Like he left a 10% tip at Manhattans one night or something?
I don't see what's so favorable about it, besides the fact that he was fortunate that the auto-accident wasn't more serious, with potentially catastrophic injuries for the victims and serious consequences (financial liability) for him.
I didn't hear about this story at Manhattans....yet. But it doesn't surprise me.

"Heck, let the debates start early! Let em start tomorrow!!"
The mayoral candidates have already "debated" at least twice. They have gathered and answered questions in a format called the WTOL/The Blade Virtual Mayoral Roundtables.
He made a mistake about his insurance payment being deducted. Took care of it the next day, checked on the other cars and paid them cash to get their cars fixed (meaning he obviously had the money to pay for insurance). You act as if he is the first person to ever get into a fender bender just because you don’t like his politics. That’s not good.
And the Manhattans reference was an obvious sarcastic remark, goodness! Yet you comment on it like that’s another scandal! Hysterical!
Why that makes perfect sense, not. You extremists kill me.
Well, this was amusing:
http://justinbillau.blogspot.com/2009/06/ben-konop-heckled-at-presser.html
That video was funny.. It only took konop about 15 minutes, before he thought to himself "Hey, maybe we should just move."
Who were the supporters in the background ? -Gullible students from the College Democrats, who want to work on a political campaign, so they can have something to put on their resume ?

Walter, you have a lot to learn. Maybe you can call Maggie and give her a much needed mani-pedi with your teefusus. I can't beleive she hangs on that blog like a desperate housewife.
I don't even know Maggie...

Um... Carty is a 100% total republican. But go him or whatever... :(
Leaning at present slightly toward Collins, but it's a long way off yet.
"Carty is a 100% total republican."
Which party backed him for this past election?
Carty is a 100% loony, which is why we need him for another 16 years.
billy, some very stupid democrats backed that republican during the last election.
Oh, no - not just some democrats, the PARTY backed him.
Who cares what party backed whom. What about the voters or non-voters ?
"Technically, a winning candidate or levy will win with only 15 to 30 percent of the public's support."
April 2007 claim :Carty didn't just walk into the mayor's office and assume power, so he doesn't get all the blame. You can't even blame the people who voted for Carty.Toledo has about 190,000 registered voters. According to the 2000 census, Toledo has 231,488 people age 18 and over. The voter turnout is calculated against the number of registered voters and not the number of people eligible to vote.
In the September 2005 primary, Carty got 15,283 votes from at least 200,000 Toledoans who are eligible to vote. Carty won the primary with the support of only 7 percent of Toledoans.
September 2005 Mayoral Primary - 22 percent of registered Toledo voters cast ballotsTop 2 make it to November
xx Carty Finkbeiner 15283 36.74% x Jack Ford 10910 26.23% Keith Wilkowski 9750 23.44% Rob Ludeman 5386 12.95% Opal Covey 110 0.26% Don Gozdowski 91 0.22% Martin Okonski 64 0.15% xx = former two-term mayor
x = mayor in 2005
November 2005 Mayoral Election - voter turnout about 40 percent
Carty Finkbeiner 47,351 61% Jack Ford 29,169 38%
Carty won the election on November 8, 2005. The next day, this thread posted at Toledo Talk titled Recall Mayor Finkbeiner .
My Prediction? The Ben Konop heckler by write-in. They say a community gets the leaders it deserves.

Konop - NO
Opal - NO
Carty - NO
Who - I don't know....we need more info and party positions....bring on the live decates!
I'm with Billy on reviving the city manager approach. Sure, he/
she will have to be paid a salary but maybe it will turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
Jul 12, 2009 tweet a few hours ago by ToledoFreePress :
Strong buzz about Carty Finkbeiner announcing a run for mayor, as early as Monday. No confirmation on the record.
I wonder if it'd be possible to also vote on going back to a city manager form of govt. We seem to have been better off that way.
