They didn't take it to a Grand Jury. It was a direct indictment by BCI. The evidence must be pretty strong. Felonius assualt with a gun specification. Possible 11 year sentence.

I think this looks like a big lawsuit for Ottawa Hills. From the articles it seems like he had minimal training and also some discipline problems.

A possible 11 year sentence seems rather light, all things considered. If the police officer gets a 9 year sentence, because he cried in court and acts remorseful, then he could be out in 7.5 or 8 years, with good behavior.
If the average Joe out there, was involved in a similar "road rage" incident, and shot and paralized someone, could he get out of prison in 6 to 8 years, with good behavior too ?

If it's a jury trial, and it probably will be, I may actually go downtown and sit through it. The notion of shooting someone in the back just gnaws at me. I'm sure the officer will have a defense and I'd like to hear it.
And if they acted too soon someone would have said they were chancing a throw out by not doing their homework. Chillax people, not every person in Toledo is incompetent.

Further, it gives emotions time do calm down. legal issues that allow emotion into the issue are almost always disasters.
Like victim impact statements before sentencing? The purpose of the criminal court system is to mete out society's anger. I agree that the process of channelling that anger should be dispassionate. The courts replaced posses, which were basically groups of angry men.
Correction: According to the Blade's new item it WAS a Gand Jury indictment, not an indictment by BCI.
