I found out that single game tickets for Toledo Walleye games start at $20. I was hoping they would be the same as the Mud Hens but oh well, I still can't wait to see them play in the new arena.
Toledo Walleye Ticket Prices

I am a little surprised that single game tickets start at $20. I was also surprised that the exhibition games tickets start at $12 - these games were free in the past for Storm season ticket holders.
I disagree that ECHL isn't quality hockey. I'm not worried about the quality of play at all. I do enjoy the AHL game - more finesse. But I think the traditional Toledo hockey fans appreciate the more physical ECHL.
They said it a long time ago when they announced the name... this isn't for hockey fans. This is for "families". Which is going to make a whole lotta sense when those ECHL bruisers start pounding on each other.

By the vy, you can get Columbus Blue Jackets tickets starting at $10.

It's for families?? Apparently, only families who can afford $80 for the tickets alone, not counting all the things the kids will be begging for -- you know, food, drinks, trinkets. Guess we won't be watching the Walleyes anytime soon.
I don’t know, 20 seems reasonable. It’s a beautiful new arena and I am anxious to go there. I figure a stupid movie is 10 bucks, this is live action. An event for the day, not just a quick in and out.
Drinks are included, right?

I'm married and have 3 kids. We'd have to drop $100 just to get in the door w/ $20 tickets. Doesn't make sense to me as Mudhens tickets are only $9 each.
Last February I wanted to buy my 5 yr old son who's taking hockeye skating lessons a Walleye jersey. The only option for kids jersey is $85 which is a ridiculiously high price. If they want people to wear merchandise and promote the team they better make it more affordable.

"I figure a stupid movie is 10 bucks, this is live action."
That's why you wait until the movie is on DvD, so you can watch it in the comfort of your own palace, or you improve your screening process to avoid wasting good money on "stupid" movies.
Live theatre is also live action, and the prices for a play at The Toledo Repertoire or the Village Players is about $20. It's stunning that an ECHL game will cost as much or more than a play.
"It’s a beautiful new arena and I am anxious to go there."
Again, it's the arena that's being sold to the public and not the product performing in the arena, and that's fine for non-hockey fans. No problem. But I'm too sophisticated to pay $20 to watch the men's softball league of hockey.
"An event for the day, not just a quick in and out."
It's not that special when the Walleye play 36 home games. And it's still ECHL hockey.
Save your money and go watch Wicked next spring at the Stranahan Theater. That will be an experience, and it will probably cost the equivalent of three or four Walleye hockey games.
If it's a sports fix that you need, UT sports are available, and the MAC is a decent product. And UT has a newly renovated arena.
Here are the single-game ticket prices for the 2009 season of UT Rockets football
Day, Date Opponent Reserved General Admission Child (12 & Under) Friday, Sept. 11 Colorado (Home Opener) $34 $29 $17 Saturday, Sept. 19 Ohio State @ Cleveland Browns Stadium Call 530.GOLD Saturday, Oct. 10 Western Michigan $24 $19 $12 Saturday, Oct. 17 Northern Illinois $24 $19 $12 Saturday, Oct. 24 Temple $24 $19 $12 Friday, Nov. 20 Eastern Michigan $24 $19 $12 Only five home games in the Glass Bowl, eh? Look at the prices. Not much more than an ECHL game, and UT football is cheaper in some instances. For the price, there's no comparison here, in my opinion. A MAC football game is a much better experience or event than ECHL hockey. And the football seems a bit more enjoyable when played under the lights in the Glass Bowl.
"I'm married and have 3 kids. We'd have to drop $100 just to get in the door w/ $20 tickets. Doesn't make sense to me as Mudhens tickets are only $9 each."
I agree that an ECHL game should not cost more than double a Triple-A baseball game. I'd like to know the thought process used to derive at the $20 price, assuming that will be the cost. I'm guessing the organization looked at the cost of other sports and entertainment venues in the Toledo area.
I can't find the single-game ticket prices on the Toledo Walleye Web site. I'm predicting that for kids under a certain age, the prices will be less than $20.
But the Walleye did announce the cost of the two exhibition games, one at the Tam-O-Shanter in Sylvania and the other at the Team Toledo Ice House on Alexis Rd.
Pre-Season Ticket Information:
· Toledo Walleye season ticket holders have exclusive window (July 6-July 8) to purchase tickets for both games
· Tickets for the games will go on sale to the public on Thursday, July 9 at 9 AM
· Tickets are $12.00 per game (kids 2 and under are free)*
2 and under? Don't overreach on giving the kids a break. $12 for ECHL exhibition games NOT played at the new arena. That makes the $20 price seem legit. A regular season UT football game against MAC opponents cost $12 for kids 12 and under.
I never heard the words sophisticated and hockey used together before.:)~
That said, I am all about supporting the arena when it opens. I hope they get some decent musical acts to stop there as well.
Again, I don’t think 20 bucks is too much to ask – not like I will be going every week. We are blessed with the 9 dollar Hens seats, but that is not typical and will not stay that price.
So somebody posts that they "heard it" and it is taken as gospel without a link? C'mon.
What about the announced $12 price for exhibition games at the Tam-O-Shanter and the Ice House? Have to believe that regular season games at the new arena will cost at least a few dollars more. And AquaMan22 seems to have knowledge related to the arena.
Forgot to mention the UT Men's Hockey Club. This area has high school and grade school hockey leagues. This is the second summer for the Toledo Street Hockey league, which appears to be starting its season this weekend. Obviously, this is a big hockey area that could probably support at least one more Tam-O-Shanter/Ice House type of building. I know it's tough to get ice time for practicing. Maybe some day thriving First Solar can support the construction of the Solardome to expand league hockey in metro Toledo.
Here is the new site for UT Men's Club Hockey, www.utoledohockey.com just trying to keep you updated.
Also I play for UT Clubs Hockey Team, for a fundraiser to play at the new arena, all we had to do was sell 500 Walleye Tickets, and in exchange we would be able to play one home game there. The difference is, we would be able to sell general admission tickets for only $10 each. Saving people $10 on each ticket.

I talked to the Walleye today. Tickets will be in the $15 range, maybe more near the glass.

It's official -- BGSU hockey to play Michigan at the Lucas County Arena in Toledo on [Sat] Nov. 21.

One additional note on the BGSU hockey game vs. Michigan at Lucas Arena. This game is included in all BGSU hockey season ticket packages.
If you're looking for a hockey purist, you got him. The quality of play in the ECHL shouldn't be overlooked. The league has sent hundreds of players to the NHL. If you follow hockey, you'll recognize Vezina winner Tim Thomas. He played in the ECHL, as well as another Vezina winner Olag Kolzig (I saw him play with Hampton Roads against the Storm before his stardom). Former Wing Manny Legace? ECHL. Two ECHL'er played in the NHL all-star game last year.
$15 seems like a pretty decent price to watch the Walleye. Can't wait.
Last winter we drove to Fort Wayne to see a Comets game and paid $15 each. Nice arena. On top of that was the turnpike fee (about $10 round trip).
My ticket for the Stanley Cup finals has a face value of $ 315.
$20 bucks for Walleye seams OK
Aug 1, 2009 Examiner story titled Toledo Walleye individual ticket sales announcement :
Single-game tickets will officially go on sale at 9:00 a.m. EST on Saturday, August 8, 2009. Fans can purchase tickets in person at the Toledo Mud Hens box office at Fifth Third Field, by phone at (419) 725-WALL or online at the Toledo Walleye official site.Comparable to the price of a movie ticket, individual tickets will go for $15 each with children under 12 and senior citizens paying a reduced fee of $13.
Only tickets for 34 of the 36 home games will be available as seats for opening weekend are currently limited to full- and partial-season ticket holders. The Walleye play their first five games of their inaugural season at home at the brand new Lucas County Arena.
The Walleye will also play two pre-season games in the Toledo area, facing the Cincinnati Cyclones at the Tam-O-Shanter Arena on Sylvania Avenue in Sylvania on October 10, 2009, and the Port Huron Icehawks of the International Hockey League on October 11, 2009, at the Team Toledo Ice House on West Alexis in North Toledo. Tickets for both pre-season games are also available via phone and online at $12 each.
I still can't believe they are charging $15 for their cheapest ticket. What I really can't believe is that they are charging $12 to go watch their pre-season game at Tam O'Shanter, and at the Ice House.

I just did a little research on all the teams in the ECHL, and found out that the cheapest ticket price average is 9.50. I found some teams selling tickets for $5, and some teams selling tickets for no more then $12 for the best seats in the house.
The deal that I hope the Walleye come out with which I saw a lot of teams have is 4 tickets, 4 hotdogs, 4 drinks, all for $36. I know we have a new rink but everytime the Walleye have made a decision they claim that it's all about being family oriented. Yet their cheapest ticket price is the most out of all the teams in the ECHL.

Are you paying $20 to see the arena or watch hockey? That seems like a steep price for ECHL games regardless of where the ice is located. I'd like to hear from hockey purists. The ECHL is low-grade hockey, right? The Walleye are not to hockey what the Mud Hens are to baseball.
The American Hockey League is good hockey, correct? The Grand Rapids Griffins are affiliated with the Detroit Red Wings, and the Toledo Walleye are affiliated with the Griffins/Red Wings. The Griffins play in the Van Andel Arena which is "a 10,834-seat multi-purpose arena. After a $75 million construction effort, the arena opened on October 8, 1996."
The Van Andel Arena is not a relic, and the AHL is better hockey than the ECHL.
The following image is for single-game tickets for the Griffins for the 2009-2010 season:
I can't believe that ECHL Toledo Walleye single-game tickets start at $20. I could somewhat understand a $20 starting price for an AHL team playing in a brand new arena but not for an ECHL team. I'd say the Toledo Walleye owners are banking on a lot of frenzied suckers. Nice fish reference there.
I'd like to think Toledo would have enough hockey smarts and taste to not fall for this scam. Obviously, the owners are thinking that the product on the ice is irrelevant, and what counts are comfortable seats and tasty food at the concession stands.
And maybe the Walleye are not being marketed to real hockey fans. Maybe this product in the shiny new container is being sold to people who know next to nothing about hockey, but they want to go out and do something on a winter night. And those people outnumber real hockey fans. From a business viewpoint, it makes sense to target the larger audience.
Same old thoughts I've had years ago :
