Over a bike... so sad... such a waste.
Rest in Peace Dr. Brundage.
RIP Dr. Bob...that eclectic botanist loved this city deep in his bones..."a fine specimen" (his words)
I just can't get over this. It's such a senseless waste of TWO lives.
this was a man that deserves to be celebrated
my deepest condolences...

Many at Toledo Botanical Gardens were very upset over what happened. They'll be devastated.
That is a man who I feel sadness because he is gone. I only hope that he is at peace and in a better place now.
GuestZero, I agree.
I didn't know Dr. Brundage. However, he sounds like the kind of man who would have bent over backwards to help Dailahntae Jemison.
Now both lives are wasted. What a shame.
Hopefully people will be inspired by the way he (Brundage) lived his life and carry on his legacy.
Agreed. Please keep us posted if any type of public ceremony happens.

To Toledolen, UPSO, Prime and others whom have had the privledge of knowing this fine human being, no platitudes but please know we are thinking of you.
I wasn't a friend of Dr. Bob's—only talked with him a few times—but there are a lot of Old West End residents (and Toledoans) in mourning.
My condolences to his friends, family, associates and, from the sounds of it, his many admirers and those who benefited from his good works.
They are going to pursue murder charges as an adult:

More thoughts on the death of Dr. Robert Brundage on my blog, but this is indeed a sad day. I still shake my head at the pointlessness of the robbery, and wish I could have been there to give the idiot kid Dailahntae Jemison my underused 10-speed so he would leave Dr. Bob alone.
It's nicer, still kinda new, and if Jemison had stolen my bike Dr. Bob would still be alive and continuing his important work.

Jul 15, 2009 - Toledo Blade - 15-year-old arraigned in murder of activist - Hearing set Tuesday on adult certification
Attorney Joanne Rubin entered pleas of not guilty on behalf of the teenager, who is charged with delinquency in connection with aggravated murder and with murder for the death of Robert Brundage. The Lucas County Coroner's Office determined that Mr. Brundage, 66, died of blunt-force trauma and ruled the death a homicide.Judge Connie Zemmelman yesterday reviewed the process that will take place, including two hearings in juvenile court to determine whether young Jemison will be transferred to adult court.
If he is transferred to adult court and convicted on murder charges, he faces life in prison. If convicted in juvenile court, he can either be incarcerated until the age of 21 or, if found to be a serious youthful offender, can be incarcerated in the juvenile system with an adult sentence hanging over his head, the judge said.
Another update from today:
http://www.wtol.com/global/story.asp?s=10762304With some background on the kid that includes "sexual imposition", "running away", and "assault".
More here, on his recent behavior post-arrest:

This kid's life is essentially over. He appears to be selfish with no impulse control and no empathy for other people. In other words, life in prison is necessary for the good of society. Too bad the adult care givers who failed him so miserably in his early years won't be there with him.
Agreed Holland. Sounds like another case of people taking in kids simply for the money.

Looks like Jemison will not be tried as an adult afterall
Mark my words, he will be let go after being "rehabilitated" and he will continue a life of crime.
three years in 'juvie' to hone his trade then watch out Toledo!
Mark my words, he will be let go after being "rehabilitated" and he will continue a life of crime
Just like the boys in Toledo's "Utica Street Incident" in 1996. The other day, I linked some of the Blade articles from 1996 talking about whether or not the boys could be rehabilitated here: http://www.toledotalk.com/cgi-bin/tt.pl/article/42861/What_happened_to_the_boys_of
(The title was truncated after posting, so I don't think anyone realized what my topic was about. Either that, or no one cared to read/respond. lol But it seems relevant now with the news about Jemison.)
Anyhow...at least one of those boys turned into a Toledo's Most Wanted Fugitive as an adult. I've learned since creating the original topic that several of the other boys went on to have run-ins with the police as adults as well.
Toledolen, that link doesn't work. Which one is it, here?:

Teen admits role in activist Robert Brundage's death

GZ, I wonder where that went? Can't find the article now.
Its there, i just read it. The kid is a little piece of sh*t, i wish poetic justice on him since he will only do 5 years with this system!
Damn shame, I guess no good deeds go unpunished.
Now, try the worthless little puke that did it as an adult and put his pathetic ass away for life.
