Has anyone seen this movie yet? I'm really excited to see it this weekend was curious what my fellow TT's thought if you've seen or plan to see it.

Shonuff: what did you not like about it? Trailer had all the good scenes? Bad acting, bad story?

Don't know what you're talking about, Shonuff. I loved it. The setup was great, I loved the lead character, and the way things play out is good stuff.

One note that may change how you look at it: this is not a message movie wrapped up in a SciFi flick. This is a science fiction movie. There's a lot of action near the end. It's easy to see the plot and think it's a grand statement on racism. But really, it would be too easy to do that.

Still, 89% on Rotten Tomatoes should tell you something.

Uh, yeah - that they have their opinions and Shonuff has his.

The first hour at least is shot like it is being made on home video...it is a long BORING hour of building up the story of how the aliens arrived etc. The last hour has a few good action scenes and some good special effects..but it just dragged on and on. Overall...if you offered me my twenty dollars back to sit through it again..I would decline.

saw it today... excellent bit of sci fi

I saw it. I would give it three and a half stars out of five. Sarlto Copley does an excellent job as a very British bureaucrat. Rather reminds one of the difficulties in trying one's best to civilize the aborigines, right?

The writing is very good, and the special effects are excellent.

I thought it was great...too bad he never got to finish the Halo movie.

Funny one would think the bureaucrat was British, when he spoke with an Afrikner accent and was clearly a South African. I give it a 4.5 out of 5. BTW, there is NO movie I have ever seen that I wouldn't see again for 20 bucks. And I would see this one again for free. Excellent flick IMO.

Thought Alien Nation was a grand statement on racism.

I thought the TV series was even better than the movie.

What do you mean 'Funny'? Funny how?

Funny, as in strange, or unusual, that a Brit would speak with a pronounced Afrikaans accent, instead of a British accent. Does anyone else think the lead actor was British?

I think this pic is similar to "Alien Nation", but more fully addresses the issue of racisim.
