Who thinks it's going to be a bad winter this year? Anyone have a farmers almanac handy to see what it says. My father in law swears by that book.

Where is that global warming we have been bombarded with by the liberals?I had to start my furnace last night!I couldn't believe the amount of frost on my car this morning.

MYTH: Recent cold winters and cool summers don’t feel like global warming to me.
FACT: While different pockets of the country have experienced some cold winters here and there, the overall trend is warmer winters.
Measurements show that over the last century the Earth’s climate has warmed overall, in all seasons, and in most regions. Climate skeptics mislead the public when they claim that the winter of 2003–2004 was the coldest ever in the northeastern United States. That winter was only the 33rd coldest in the region since records began in 1896. Furthermore, a single year of cold weather in one region of the globe is not an indication of a trend in the global climate, which refers to a long-term average over the entire planet.
Some meaningless info ...
For Oct 1, 2009, the low temp Thursday morning at Toledo Express Airport was 32 degrees F.
The high temp Thursday was 61.
The normal temps for the Oct 1 date, which I think are based upon the 30-year rolling average, are Hi 69, Lo 47.
The record high for Oct 1 was 90 set in 1897. I checked the Toledo Chronicle on Oct 2, 1897, and they were complaining about global warming.
The record low for Oct 1 was 29 set in 1899. I checked the Toledo Tribune on Oct 2, 1899, and they were complaining about global cooling.
"Measurements show that over the last century the Earth’s climate has warmed overall"
So? If the Earth is four billion years old, how are climate records for only the past one hundred years or even 250,000 years significant?
If a single year of unusual weather in one region of the globe is not an indication of a trend in the global climate, then a 100 years of weather change also cannot be an indicator of anything long-term if the Earth is over four billion years old.
The past 100 years of climate data can give insight into the next 100 years, which is insignificant in Earth-age time.
What's "long-term" mean, anyway? 100 years? 1,000 years? Those numbers don't register on a 4.5 billion-year-old rock.
all i know is i didn't feel any global warming when i sat on a very cold toilet seat yesterday morning. it sent some shivers down my....whatever.
Toledolen's site is interesting -
From the first item:
FACT: There is no debate among scientists about the basic facts of global warming.
The most respected scientific bodies have stated unequivocally that global warming is occurring, and people are causing it by burning fossil fuels (like coal, oil and natural gas) and cutting down forests. The U.S. National Academy of Sciences, which in 2005 the White House called "the gold standard of objective scientific assessment," issued a joint statement with 10 other National Academies of Science saying "the scientific understanding of climate change is now sufficiently clear to justify nations taking prompt action. It is vital that all nations identify cost-effective steps that they can take now, to contribute to substantial and long-term reduction in net global greenhouse gas emissions." (Joint Statement of Science Academies: Global Response to Climate Change [PDF], 2005)
What made me chuckle was this line: "It is vital that all nations identify cost-effective steps that they can take now, to contribute to substantial and long-term reduction in net global greenhouse gas emissions."
Note that the only adjective put upon the steps they recommend we should take is "cost-effective"...
I dont believe Ive seen any of those...
Thanks for a GREAT post jr. Perspective is a great thing!!!

That made my morning I laughed so hard. Agree it has been chilly and had the same feeling this morning. Forgot how cold a bowl can get.
