Looking For Dinner Bell Bacon

My mom (who is 81) was complaining that she preferred Dinner Bell bacon to the Private Select center cut that I buy at Kroger's. I went looking for it today when I did my shopping. Dinner Bell was not carried as a brand at the Wal-Mart on Glendale or the Kroger on Glendale near Detroit Ave. The stocker I asked said that John Morrell bought that brand a while ago, and had been putting out more foods under their own brand. He said that store on Glendale no longer carried Dinner Bell, though other Kroger stores might still carry it. Anyone bought Dinner Bell bacon recently, and where did you buy it in the area?

Maybe Mom will give John Morrell a try if she sees this?

Holland, I checked that out. I thought Private Select was good, but she won't touch it. She grew up in an era when quality meant a brand name. If you could afford it then you bought it.

I swear I saw Dinner Bell somewhere recently...will have to check when I go back to my usual grocery stores.

Speaking of bacon...I want to know where Cracker Barrel gets theirs! No matter what brand I try or what restaurant I order from, Cracker Barrel always has the best bacon.

Waffle House has exceptionally good bacon too.

I'm still checking for Dinnerbell. Neither the Kroger at Springmeadows or the Meijer department store on Conant have this brand. I guess I better find out what appeals to her about Dinnerbell bacon. She cooks her bacon until it is "extra" crispy. When she is done cooking it a pound of bacon has turned into two ounces of meat. I prefer mine chewy, not crunchy. So I tend to buy thicker bacon, maybe she just wants it thin.

http://www.wset.com/news/stories/0209/594078.html Like crispy bacon? Try baking it in an oven using a cake cooling rack.

I am a big fan of crispy bacon too. Hope you have good luck finding what she's looking for!

Oldsendbrdy, If you happen to find a package, save the label. Maybe you can be sneaky and add it to another type of bacon and mom may not be the wiser.

Well, I got one she liked. Oscar Meyer at $4.99/lb at Kroger. But she does not eat the bacon. She cooks it, and uses the fat to fry an egg. She wanted me to eat the bacon. I had it with my salad.

LOL that is freaking cute. All of this for bacon to fry an egg. I love it.
