Anybody know anything about compact video recorders?

I was in Costco today and saw a product called the Flip Video. Anybody know anything about it? For 129.99 after rebate, it looks like it might be a decent starter video camera.

Ive always kind of thought they were neat, but most of the time I just never thought the cost justified the amount of use I'd get out of it.

anybody ever heard of one of these little units?

the folks on amazon seem to like it: http://www.amazon.com/Flip-Ultra-Camcorder-Generation-Minutes/dp/B0023B14U4/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257041092&sr=8-7

I actually have one, provided by my station, and I love it.

Speaking as a person who uses professional video equipment daily, I think this is a great camera -- quick and easy to start shooting, long battery life, and lots of room on the hard drive.

And it's so much easier to upload when you just have to plug it in to USB, as opposed to what we do with our big cameras -- capture the video, then find another way to import it.

I keep mine in my pocket for those times I don't get a chance to grab my big camera (like, when a police pursuit is rushing by), and I've been surprised and pleased with its performance.

they have several different models, I'll have to assume that if they name something the 'second generation' that's the new and improved model...

Thanks Barrett.
