Holiday Creepage - Happy HalloweXmas!

"Is it just me, or did Halloween usurp Thanksgiving's position in the holiday hierarchy this year? -- thetoledowire"

It's not just you ... starting last week at least one department store was in full-on Xmas mode, a dress shop in downtown Perrysburg had shiny foil gift-wrapped windows, and the Christmas-theme TV commercials started.

I fully expect that a decade or so in the future, Christmas commercialism will have been pushed forward into the Back-to-School retail sales period. That will expose the soft underbelly of summer holidays, so retailers can make an assault on Fourth of July.

Where the heck have you guys been??? For like the last 2 or 3 years, most retailers have completely passed on Thanksgiving after Halloween and went straight to Christmas.

Sorry, I was fuming about the fact that Christmas comes so darn early in Retail Land. Other than tablecloths and food, I don't recall ever seeing much specific Thanksgiving merchandise for sale.

We used to get a big T-giving buildup in school ... make paper turkeys, sing "Over the River and Through the Woods." I guess you're right: if you're not a schoolchild, there is no visible Thanksgiving presence.
