Roadblock to Progress in Free Press

Did you see the full-page ad on the back of the Nov. 1 Toledo Free Press? Two local businessmen who claim they wanted to expand in the city (creating 8 jobs) describe the process of working with the City, RGP, and LCIC for 18 months with no results.

There is a list of people from each entity, including who wouldn't even return their phone calls. They question why our tax money is being used to fund personnel and organizations that can't actually do any economic development.

I for one would love to see an Econo-Cam placed inside the offices of some of the professional economic-development types. What do they do all day while collecting their paychecks?

I personally contacted the city people on behalf of a business owner who wanted to create 1 new full-time job within the city limits (at one time there were grants for this sort of thing). After repeated phone calls, I realized no one was ever going to call me back.

I hope the new mayor can require city employees to be more responsive.
