Issue 1

Well, it looks like Issue 1 passed. How about that! Soldiers getting money for once instead of winos and loafers. Nothing like that to get the radical left hopping mad, I'll bet. A fine idea IMO, and a sound Conservative principle if ever there was one. In addition, this tells me that the groundswell of Conservative ideals in the country is spreading far and wide. And that, of course, is a good thing.

That is a different statement than what I would have made. I work with all Republicans and all of them did NOT want issue one to pass.

They've been getting the money all along, Wulf (at least since WW1). The Issue 1 vote was to take a loan out ($200 million) in order to give them a bonus this time around.

Which is SO ENTIRELY FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE, yeah.

I voted for it, I just wonder where can I buy the bonds? Sounds like a win-win situation to me.

I am a Republican and so is my wife (plus she is a vet of the 'war' in Afghanistan, so we will actually get this money) and we both voted NO on this issue. This is nothing more than another government hand out.

So you are going to refuse the money then?

Our soldiers are woefully undercompensated. I voted for it and I'm a total progressive. Hey Wulf! You don't seem to have a real clue what conservative and progressive principles really are. Where do you get the idea a progressive - or a liberal as I prefer to be called - would choose not to compensate our soldiers? I don't have a single liberal friend who didn't support this and none of them are military.

I received a bonus from the state of Ohio for my service during the Vietnam War.I thought it only far to vote yes so the current veterans could have the same benefit.

99% of them put their behinds on the line everyday, and they didn't have to sign up for it, but they did anyhow. I think that rewards a little extra bonus.

Thanks to everyone who voted for it, especially you, Wulf. My husband's a disabled vet and we can use the extra cabbage.

Since we are both considered left of liberal, we'll be sure to use that money on some nice, progressive cause.

Thanks again, Wulf!

You're welcome! I like to help out whenever I can.

As a military member I would have rather seen them give all veterans free education at Ohio's state colleges. Texas and Illinois currently already do it.

I didn't support it and I'm disgusted that it passed. Why should we place all of Ohio -- packed with the working poor -- in deeper debts just to secure more benefits for a privileged class. It was morally wrong to do that.

As a result, I don't want to hear any of you complain about what's going to happen to Ohio's working poor. You apparently think we're made of money here or something. We're going to tax into oblivion anyone who is lucky enough to make it above $12/hr. More jobs will flee and the welfare rolls will swell. It's got to break down sometime from that, and when it does, social catastrophe results.

Privileged class? Soldiers who served their(and YOUR)country? FYI these people pay taxes TOO. And just who the hell is raising all the taxes on the working poor-the G-D democrats, that's who.

I was called a lot of things while I was in the military, but never did anybody say that I was from the privileged class. It was quite the contrary. If I had been part of the privileged class I would not have had to join the military during the Vietnam war. Also ,it won't be the so called working poor that will foot the bill for this issue. They are not paying all that much in state taxes as compared to someone in a much higher bracket. One only has to look at the tax tables to see who is paying most of the bill. The people on the bottom most likely are not paying hardly any state tax.

To all that have served Thank You.

GZ,

Have you ever served in any branch of the armed service??

posted by lfrost2125 on Nov 10, 2009 at 10:51:56 am     #

Yes, Wulf: Privileged class. They already have access to subsidized health care through the VA. They already have bonuses on various tests, like the one for the Census that I'm about to take on Friday.

LFrost: People like you think you can control the argument with emotional appeals. But you can't, since the facts are against you. Yes, I served in the military. Active duty and then Guard. But that has no relevance anyway. You can serve if you want, or not. You still have the same rights and responsibilities as any other citizen. And as such, you don't deserve to get money that comes from everyone being taxed.

Issue 1 was a waste of Ohio's already-depressed economic energy. Ohio's deplorable and still falling condition requires that people KEEP THEIR MONEY instead of being constantly tapped to pay for government programs.

So this is a reminder: EVERY person (yes, including current and former mil vets) deserves to be free of the rapacious looting called "taxes". Apparently Ohioans still aren't poor enough to realize this fact. That doesn't matter ... since poverty is a great instructor, and the lesson will be delivered eventually. The only problem is that later delivery only and greatly increases the costs of the lesson.

I consider myself a liberal and I voted against it. While I feel veterans should be rewarded for their dedicated service, I don't feel Ohio is fiscally capable of handling it at the moment. I also don't feel the state should shoulder the burden cast by the federal government.

Whether anyone likes it or not, freedom is not free.I have no problem helping those that helped make this country free.

Gz,

Sorry to disappoint you but I wasn't trying to control anything. I was just asking if you had ever served to see where you were coming from. Like I've stated before, your entitled to your opinion, that's what this country is about. No one is told what to believe, everyone can believe what they want. That is all because of the people who have served.

On a side note, On this fine veterans day, thank you again to those that have served.

Fair enough, Lfrost. I've been shellacked for my beliefs before, hence that's what I expected here. I'm wrong, and happy holiday to you, too.

Not a problem. Happy Veterans day to you also.
