BeInstrumental - Instrument Donation Drive and Jazz Concert

On Tuesday, November 10th, the BeInstrumental Foundation, a Toledo-based non-profit organization, will be holding a musical instrument drive and scholarship fundraiser from 6:30pm to 10:00pm at Manhattan’s Restaurant located at 1516 Adams Street in Downtown Toledo.

Local and renowned jazz drummer, Damen Cook, will headline the event, providing for an evening of great music, gourmet food and wine courtesy of Manhattan’s Restaurant and Uptown Vineyard. Tickets to the event are $25. Proceeds raised during the event will support the BeInstrumental Music Makes a Difference scholarship fund.

The public may drop off new or used musical instruments at Manhattan’s Restaurant, beginning at 5:00 p.m. BeInstrumental is accepting all types of musical instruments – particularly high-school band instruments – such as clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, flutes, and other wind and percussion instruments. Instruments collected will be refurbished and offered free of charge to local inner-city schools and community organizations for use in their musical education programs.

The BeInstrumental Foundation provides financial and educational resources to local music students and musical education programs throughout Northwest Ohio. “The scholarships and resources provided by BeInstrumental are essential in allowing inner-city children, and those without the resources, the opportunity to continue their musical dreams,” said Jeff Green, Director of the BeInstrumental Foundation.

For more information, or to RSVP online, please contact Jeff Green at 567-343-2274 or at green@beinstrumental.org or visit www.beinstrumental.org.

JAR, it sounds like you can merely drop off a used instrument and save your $25 if you are not interested in the music, food and wine. It also sounds like you can attend the $25 event sans used instrument if you don't have one to donate.

Just waiting for Ryan to donate his skinflute. See? if I hadn't posted something snarky, no one would have read this post, and the children would be without instruments and be forced to become rap artists...

I would have still read this post without a snarky comment to start things off. :)

I have a clarinet and a flute, but I was holding onto them to see if by chance either (or both) of my kids would take up an instrument once they were old enough. If my kids had already aged past that point, I'd totally consider donating them.

(My clarinet was a hand-me-down from my older cousin, and its actual wood. Not the plastic/resin stuff that was more common when I was in junior high. They just don't make 'em like that anymore...at least, not for the masses of school children.)

“We believe the skills the arts teach -creative thinking, problem-solving, risk-taking, teamwork and communications – are precisely the tools the workforce of tomorrow will need. If we don’t encourage students to master these skills through quality arts instruction today, how can we ever expect them to succeed in their highly competitive business careers tomorrow?” -Richard Gurin, Chief Executive Officer, Binney and Smith, maker of Crayola crayons.

Keep up the good work. Are there any other groups like this based in Toledo?
