I'm still waiting to hear from a few people that I know that work on base. Got in touch with one person's wife, but she hasn't heard from him yet.

This is terrible. Why does this keep happening in our country? Every six months or so, somebody shoots up a workplace or a school or a home and people talk about how tragic it is, but then after a couple of weeks go by, the cameras pack up and people start to forget. I don't know what the answer is, but it troubles me that we live in a country where these types of events are relatively commonplace.
I'm hearing a Major in the US Army, Maleck Nadel Hasin, is reportedly the shooter, other two perps still unidentified.
How is it that all the major news media reported that the shooter was dead?
The media was given that information from the military at Ft. Hood. Why? No explanation for that.
I know the military does not have a reputation for being touchy feely, but at this juncture it seems that this guy was acting in ways that should have alerted someone that there were serious problems.
I wonder if we will ever get the whole story. Apparently they, (the government) were looking at this guy for at least 6 months due to some internet postings.
Latest news says he was a devout Muslim and shouted "Allahu Akbar!" before shooting.

Certainly makes it appear like a premeditated attack.

If there were others involved in this, they would be less inclined to either hide, or commit suicide if they believed the shooter could no longer implicate them. My .02.
Just guessing but it could be in the confusion afterward, with so many casualties, plus the fact that probably most were wearing the same type uniform, the "shooter" got mixed up with the victims.
One thing is certain, they should pin a medal on officer Kimberly Munley. A true hero, who knows how many more may have died if not for her quick action.
Anyone interested a group I belong to is collecting new stuffed animals, and cards/notes for those affected by this tragedy.

This is interesting...
"I spoke today with a friend who is a Muslim soldier stationed at Fort Hood. He and Hasan prayed side-by-side at the mosque the morning of the massacre. He agreed to share his story with me if I granted him anonymity."

While I agree this is a tragedy, I feel we are actually drawn to this story for the drama. The media knows they can sell it and we are anxious to buy ever grisly detail. 14,000 people were murdered in this country last year, more than 17,000 people died as a result of drunk driving, numbers so staggering we can barely even comprehend them. Now, individually their stories might not be quite as interesting in cable news spotlight. Maybe, that is the real tragedy.

Oh yeah, not to mention over 6000 dead coalition troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and an estimated death toll ranging between 100,000 and 1,000,000 lives of Iraqi civilians.
