Delicious Burger, Thanks!

To whoever posted on here about Yum Yum on Summit St.:

Thanks! My friend and I tried it out last Weds. Great burgers and fries and good prices. I have to admit, the place was a little chilly, what with the door opening and closing so much on a windy day. Or maybe it was the wind whistling in through the bullet holes in the windows; I'm not sure.

Anyway, we had really good burgers and great service, in an interesting location. We'll definitely go back!

Reminded me of the "tasty buger" scene from Pulp Fiction:

glad you liked it! it's one of my favorite spots in town

It’s funny because it would seem like a burger is the easiest thing in the world to make. But try as I might, when I make them at home they are nothing like the great ones available out and about. I can make things like mousakka from scratch but the basic burger escapes me time and again.

I agree Ryan. It's got to be the grease on a dirty grill or something.

Here's the secret: worcestershire sauce. Rub it into the patty, both sides, before you grill. Delish.

Thats not a dirty grill its called seasoning.

seasoning as in pepper, or for some places 'round here it's cigarette ash.

Burgers at the local burger joint (not the fast food wastelands) are great because they are loaded with fat! I'm not complaining mind you, it's just that the fat is what gives them the great flavor.

Lipton onion soup mix mixed in makes a pretty good burger too. Or "greek seasoning" (from Lee Williams) and some parsley. Ok, i'm getting kind of hungry now.

I totally bought a package of lipton onion soup like half an hour ago. Too bad I didn't buy ground beef!

Has anyone been to 5 Guys? How is it?

posted by CynicalCounsel on Dec 30, 2009 at 10:31:47 am     #

Really, really good. The regular burgers are double patties, so go there hungry. Go with a friend and split a regular order of fries, and you'll still probably have some left over.

Annie is right, go hungry. The regular burgers are actually doubles, and they are pretty big. A small fry is huge. And don't take anyone with a peanut allergy, the fries are cooked in peanut oil and there are baskets of unshelled peanuts all over the restaurant.

Did 5 guys yesterday with hubby. Two hamburgs, one order of fries. Lunch time crush, navigated the tables and managed to snag one. Still full. Will definitely repeat.

We went a few weeks ago and got a burger... and I ordered a hot dog. The hot dog was split in half and grilled, which was great. And like the above, the burger was great as well. Didn't order fries but I don't really care for fries... so...

Foodie has the right answer, its the fat.

Most Americans buy 90/10 fat-to-lean ratio ground beef. Some go 80/20.

Most restaurant chefs use more like 75/25 or 70/30. Some fast food places will dip to 60/40

I drove past there noticed it looked Out of business. anyone know what happened? I ate there once and although it was not 5 Guys in quality, to some locals, it had a nice niche in people's hearts.
