Neat. If I shopped at Krogers I would.

This program to support local non-profits is a nice hook for Kroger, but I'll stick with spending my money at my favorite locally-owned shops like the Phoenix Earth Food Co-op, Zavotski's, and The Andersons.

Independent Advocates is another non-profit using this program.

I suspect a lot of local groups are taking advantage of this program. If you have a favorite nonprofit, call them up and ask about this!

The arts are nice ,but not a necessity. In these times of economic distress I would much rather donate to the Cherry Street mission or the Toledo food bank.

Yeah, I think there are quite a few organizations that are participating.

I used to do all my grocery shopping at Kroger, because I'd a 5% contribution.

They've really lowered the contribution percentage now that they have transitioned to this Community Rewards program. The average is less than 2% now. Its like they try to make it sound like they are doing more, but now they're just giving groups a token percentage instead of what they used to give to groups that participated before.

I've stopped shopping at Kroger, because I can get a guaranteed 4% return at Andersons, Meijer, Giant Eagle, etc. For a lot of families, Kroger took away the incentive for shopping there.

P.S. Upso - make sure you check the bottom of your receipts to make sure it says the name of your organization on the bottom. My final straw with Kroger was when they didnt even give credit for all that I DID spend - half my receipts never showed the contribution at the bottom, even though I used the same Plus card same way I always did. (No rhyme or reason to it - I could go to the same store 4-5 times in a week, and only get credit for maybe 2 times.)

The program could be a good thing if it were administered properly. But unfortunately, your organization may be getting gypped out of some of the contribution from your purchases, because of the hit-or-miss crediting of your purchases.

Not a big deal if you'd be shopping at Kroger no matter what, I guess. But if you're specifically choosing Kroger over a competitor to help your organization, then they should follow through with making the full contribution to your group!

Unfortunately I can't help. Don't do Kroger's. I shop the independants - Sautters, Kazmeiers, Churchill's, Monette's and the Anderson's. When it's open I go to the Farmer's market. Buying local is important.

I agree 100% but still thought it was good to mention for the krogers shoppers! :)

Reregister your Kroger card online. I guess it expired 04/01/11 for the donations.

Meijers offers a card for this as well, I have set mine to my old highschool though.

Thanks for the info, upso. I do shop at Sautter's, Kazmaier's and Andersons because they are local. But I also go to Kroger for specific items.

We pretty much shop everywhere but Wal-Mart. Kroger is just convenient because they are all over. Also my wife is a couponer and the Kroger Perrysburg doubles coupons up to one dollar. Often she’ll get $100 in groceries for $30 after coupons. Plus we get 2% toward my kids’ tuition and another 1-2% toward my kids’ college fund from our U-Promise card; every bit helps. More trouble than I’d go through most days, but god love my wife for doing it. But like Mom2 said, there are better returns for our schools from Giant Eagle among other places.

Ditto mom2's post. I don't shop there as often for the very same reason.

BTW, mom2 and Sensor, Costco and Meijer are both on the Northwest Ohio Scrip Association list -- I use a Costco gift card for all my gas purchases now, and get 1% off tuition, as well as cheap Costco gas.

Cool stuff. Thanks for mentioning that ACGT participates in this program, Upso. Another local arts org that does is Masterworks Chorale, for vocal music enthusiasts who want to make a contribution.
