15 yr Old Arrested For Daylight Full View Street Rape

http://www.wtol.com/Global/story.asp?S=11851747

Is that screwed up or what? Any fifteen year old who does something that blatently horrid has to be tried as an adult. Not because he has an adult understanding of what he did. We don't know that. But because he can't be back out on the streets after any short juvie detention. He's just too dangerous.

I agree 100% Holland.
And what the hell is wrong with people, from the way the story on the Blades website was worded, people SAW this happening. They apparently did nothing. The scum should have been dragged into the street and beaten to within an inch of his life.

I noticed in the article people complaining that nobody stopped and offered to help. I have a funny feeling this "kid" might be close to six feet tall, and 185-200 pounds. Remember when Toledo cops chased a sixteen year old "child", who drowned in Swan Creek, many years ago? He was 6-1, and weighed 225 pounds. And this one here had a weapon, too. Sadly, if someone had intervened, they might now be the target of a lawsuit. There's more to this story than we're being told, IMO.

Yes it is. It's easy for me to sit here and speculate what I would have done concerning the weapon but, I'd like to think I could have at least run interference and take the brunt of it instead of this seamingly helpess woman.

Honestly, I'm at a loss for words; this will hopefully mean the rapist will spend a great deal of time in an adult prison.

As with most of these stories, the facts are coming out and something isn't right.

According to the Blade, the girl has some behavioral and mental health issues. Also, the boy first asked to pay the girl for a sex act. Then, he put scissors to her chest and said that he'd cut her if she didn't. The article also says that passerbys didn't know if the act was consentual or not.

I'm not defending this creep, I'm just saying that if I did see something like that going on in todays world, I'd wonder too if it was an attack or today's youth just "getting busy".

Something isn't right and only those two know for sure, but I'm waiting to hear more details.

hockey.. even in this day and age, it is not normal for kids to "get busy" in public. anyone who saw this and did nothing should be ashamed of themselves.

Would it be possible for people (ordinary citizens) in Toledo to get an issue on the ballot (before voters), so that people as young as 13-years old, who commit rape, can be tried as adults ?

Just wondering ? Is this possible ?

People have had different issues (laws) decided by voters before.

I would like to see TOLEDO voters change the exisiting laws, that coddle and protect violent youths.

posted by WalterAnthony on Jan 21, 2010 at 01:48:00 pm     #

i think that would have to be a state issue, not a county issue

hockey, not sure about your 'getting busy' comment, what you mean exactly (altho the 15 yr old and her boyfriend across the street seemed to think they could do what they wanted on her full-view front porch last summer, really odd even for teens), but I too had some reservations about the details, something dont seem right.

I think that the law should be changed to define "adult crimes". Like rape, if you commit the crime or are charged with the crime listed as an "adult crime", you should be charged as an adult no matter what the age.

As far as the "getting busy" comment goes, some kids already wear their pants around their knees and have their behinds hanging out, I'm just guessing that taking it a step further isn't that far of a reach.

And lastly, as I've stated here before, he wouldn't have wanted me to be walking or driving by. To a fault, I get involved and while sometimes it hasn't been a good thing, I feel we all have a responsibility to do so.

posted by hockeyfan on Jan 21, 2010 at 04:23:33 pm     #

And what do you think would happen if it turned out they were actually going steady? Or married? There is only a split second to decide what to do in situations like this. And how many people drove by, without seeing what was going on in the first place? When I drive down the street, I watch the traffic in front of me, not the action on the sidewalks. I'm retired, and not in the shape I was when I was young, and not really able to jump out of my car and do the Rambo thing anymore.

posted by Wulf on Jan 21, 2010 at 04:47:06 pm     #

The idea of defining "adult crimes" probably has some merit. But I'm not sure about charging every single person as an adult, "no matter what the age."

People as young as 10 years old (maybe younger) commit rape.

I would think if I saw something like that going on in broad daylight that drugs/alcohol were involved, and would not get out of the vehicle to question the participants.

posted by Wulf on Jan 21, 2010 at 05:18:12 pm     #

At least blow your horn, see what reaction is given and then call the police. Consentual sex or not, doing it in public is still against the law.

I would and have confronted people. Yes, it's scary and might get me hurt or killed. I'm not trying to be a hero, I'm just trying to make my neighborhood and city what I always thought it should be. A respectable place and that takes effort from everyone.

posted by hockeyfan on Jan 21, 2010 at 07:35:28 pm     #

Amen hockey fan. Public censure is important. When did it become acceptable to have sexual intercourse in broad daylight in full public view? And what do you tell the kids if they happen to be in the car? (Stay safe please, hockeyfan.)

I can see people reacting slowly because of the startle factor. You don't expect to see that and by the time it fully registers your half a block past it. By the time you get turned around it might have been over. I know I would have called 911 and offered assistance to the young lady.

I would totally have pulled the car over, lowered the window, yelled out at them (maybe a "wtf is going on!?!") in hopes that if someone was indeed being raped they would at least be able to show signs that they needed help, while dialing 911. And, if needed, turned the car off and tried to do something.

People have become desensitized to violence and abuse. They have also been belittled in their citizen responsibilities. So I'm sadly not surprised that people WATCHED but did not stop the crime.

Today's Blade has an interview with the woman who called 911:

http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100123/NEWS02/1230376

I try to think about what I would have done if I had witnessed the incident. I suppose I would have had a sense of disbelief first as well -
am I seeing what I think I'm seeing?"

At a minimum, I'm certain that I would have called 911. And I like to think I would have at least rolled down the window and said something.

To be completely honest, whether or not I stepped OUT of the car would have depended on whether my kids were with me. I have 2 young children - to leave them alone in the car on the side of the street at the scene of a crime would be putting them in danger.

But I'd have certainly done something (even if kids were with me) - called police, honked horn, shouted...hit the creep with my car if there was a way to do it without hurting the victim, etc.

Its hard to say EXACTLY what you'd do in a situation like that, but I know that I'd do something. I couldn't just drive by and continue on my merry way.

I would like to think that I would have done something to stop the attack on that young woman, BUT I am a 38 year old 210 pound male and I carry a gun. I am utterly disgusted that the woman who called 911 has been made to feel like she did something wrong.

She witnessed a young male attacking another woman. She called the police. That is plenty. She didn't just drive by. I would not want my wife to try and stop this attack - she is not exactly a martial arts expert and I did not read where she was packing an uzi. It's pathetic that she did the right thing - for her AND the victim - and she still gets grief from a bunch of people who only know what was reported by the ever-reliable local media.

As for the schmucks at WSPD who berated the "gawkers", they can go suck wind. It should be easy, they generate plenty of their own.

I hear lots of Rambo-type talk coming from the 'host'(morning show)at WSPD. How can anyone tell just who drove by and saw what happened, and who didn't see?

posted by Wulf on Jan 23, 2010 at 01:12:26 pm     #

I agree with MoreThanRhetoric. Don't bite off more than you can chew, as my old grandmother would say. Grandfather kept a loaded 12 gauge and felt if he couldn't hit them in five shots they were welcome to shovel him under.

Get a license to carry, learn to shoot and pack your gat. Objecting to public sex (which might be rape) while displaying that you're armed will cause the attacker(s) to run, even if they are also armed. Criminals don't want a fight - they want victims. After the dust settles, call your attorney. Let someone else call the police.

Mind you, even if you save a life or stop a crime there will be ramifications for your civic mindedness. If you're armed you'll be vilified by the police and commercial media. The police will view you as an armed and dangerous criminal. You'll be beaten by the police, your home will be ransacked for 'evidence' and your family terrorized by the SWAT team as they serve one of their infamous 'no knock' warrants. If you have a dog, the SWAT team will kill it and leave the remains for you to bury. You'll spend one or more nights in jail while the police 'sort things out'.

Then there's likely to be a civil suit. The rapist is actually an honor student, choir boy and boy scout who was framed. Or something. The family - baby momma, baby daddy and notable relatives from all sides - are hopelessly distraught over the loss of their little angel who was destined for greatness. So, they want reparations. A few million ought to be a good beginning. Commercial media will pick up on the trial, so you can be the six o'clock news will have a clip of some prime Shaniqua Theater with you playing Snidely Whiplash.

I guess you have to ask yourself if all that suffering which you will endure is worth the life of a total stranger. Personally, I haven't come up with an answer to that one. In spite of this, I believe that I would stop the car, get out and put a stop to sex on the sidewalk. At least I believe I would.

Mar 17, 2010 - Toledo Blade - West Toledo juvenile to be tried as an adult on rape charges

Calling the alleged crime both "brazen" and "violent," Lucas County Juvenile Court Judge Connie Zemmelman decided Wednesday relinquish jurisdiction over Anferney Fontenet and to send him to adult court to face charges of rape and aggravated robbery.

The judge made her decision after a hearing that spanned two days and involved the testimony of two witnesses. Also considered was a report by a clinical psychologist that recommended against sending the 15-year-old to adult court saying he was emotionally, physically, and psychologically immature.

But the judge said the youth's background - which included the unreported attempted rape of a female cousin in 2008 - and the teen's apparent lack of remorse convinced her that the case belonged in adult court.

Oh great, another ward of the state for 20 years. He'll get out and likely indulge in the prevailing recidivism.

Maybe we should go back to prisons being unpleasant places to be, again. We could then shorten sentences, save even more money, and reduce recidivism since by definition, being OUTSIDE would be greatly preferable.

Rape should be a life sentence (at the least). Raping someone is never a "mistake" and this poor woman has to live with this all her life. He will be out in 10 years or less on "good behavior".

We have become far to soft on violent crime. I can chock up a mistake when a young person commits B&E, petty theft, or vandalism. But when you decide to take a life (he has taken this womans life even though she lives), you have no place in our world.

Bleeding heart Liberals love the criminal until they are the ones with the bleeding heart. I give no quarter to animals masquerading as humans.

The sad truth is, this animal will be out, probably before serving his entire sentence. He'll likely be a more "hardened" criminal by then. Any bets as to how long it will be after he gets out that he continues his criminal ways?
