Chinese New Year Dinner Advice Needed

The Chinese New Year falls on Feb. 14th this year. I like Chinese food, but I don't patronize very many local restaurants because I'm allergic to large amounts of MSG.

Magic Wok is one of the few places that advertises "no MSG." Can anyone recommend a good Chinese place that either doesn't use additional MSG, or can serve MSG-free alternatives? I'd like to celebrate the Year of the Tiger in style!

I don't know about local places but a quick search shows that PF Changs (Fallen Timbers) will cook w/o msg upon request and their servers are knowledgeable about other nutritional alternates (such as gluten free items).

Make your own food - it is surprsingly cheap, and easy to make. Head to any asian mart, and look around - miso soup, egg drop, sweet and sour, tempura, you name it it's there for home cooking.

Egg drop is easy anyways to make, chicken broth use cornstarch to thicken it, bring it up to where it just starts to boil and dribble in whipped eggs. Egg cooks almost instantly, take off heat ans serve with some saltines.

Funny thing is, I really like MSG and I do cook with it sometimes, but I try to limit it in things I cook for groups out side my family. I do add it to my chili however and I've one first place multiple times.

viola, i highly recommend New Empire Restaurant. it's in spring meadow's shopping center, and serves up quality food. while I suspect they aren't using much in the way of MSG anyways, they are certainly the type of place that would accommodate special requests.
