How to Have a Peaceful Movie Experience

1. Avoid opening weekend. Go in 3rd week, if possible
2. Go to Maumee, Levis Commons, or Fallen Timbers
3. Late afternoon show
4. On the way in, ask ticket seller what is being done about web-surfing, texting, any fiddling with lit-up phone screens during the movie and other disruptive behavior
5. Choose seats that are not adjacent to a group of 3 or more young people

The spouse and I have been pretty lucky following these rules. I know the ticket-sellers don't control management policies, but they do pass along customer concerns to their supervisors.

Generally the theaters are so empty at these less popular times, we feel like we're getting a private screening. I would never go back to the Friday night/Saturday night scene: that's for teens who want to socialize!

In fairness to all the young people out there, I must admit that adult patrons can also be annoying, when they open up their smuggled-in snack packages, pop cans, etc. Lots of crackling and rustling and slurping!

Nice list. Though even at Maumee 18 the last 2 times I've had teens sit in front of me with the cell phones texting every 5-10 minutes.

Never had a problem at Fallen Timbers or Levis even on a weekend night, the kids there just seem a bit more respectful.

While texting can be a little annoying due to the glare, my biggest pet peeve is people who talk constantly and loudly.

It's 2010, can't we pay a premium to have theatre movies streamed right to our TV's at home Netflix style? :)

To add to your list, I recommend going on Tuesdays (day or night), not only is it a lot less crowded movies are only $6 compared to the 10.25-15 normal fee.

I didn't know about the $6 option! Which theater offers that?

Another “trick” is to go see a movie of substance. Not to many punks want to pay money to see “Precious” or “An Education”, etc. That must be why I have never had a problem. I save the cheesy stuff for cheap dvd at home viewing.

Any "National Amusements" theatre has $6 Tuesday, have had them as long as I've lived in Toledo lol.

So Franklin Park, Maumee 18, Levis Commons and Fallen Timbers.

I love the Maumee - I go when school is in and dodge the crowds and kids.

rent, lol. nothing is that important that I HAVE to go to a theatre.

Or find it on the Internet for free.
I fantasize about adding the theater number to my cell. One day, I swear that I will call the theater and inform the attendant that someone is causing a ruckus in the screen room.

You wouldn’t steal a dvd from Best Buy would you? Same thing really.

posted by Ryan on Feb 18, 2010 at 05:30:52 pm     #

as usual, I disagree Ryan. It is not the same thing.

Stealing is stealing regardless if you end up with a tangible or not. But I would not expect you to do anything but justify something like that.

I'm with Ryan on this. Someone produces something, in this case a movie, and if I want to use/see their product I should have to pay.

If someone produces something and someone copies it and puts it on BitTorrent and everyone gets it for free, what intensive is there for the producers to keep producing.

Yeah, but Ryans' friends, the Chicoms, do it all the time-they have no compunction about violating copyright laws. In fact, they don't even know what a copyright is. So, what's good for the Reds, is good for me.

Yes, you're right. That lost $12 in ticket revenue is really gonna be missed.
I'll keep my eyes open for the story about when hollywood stops making movies because a couple hundred people saw a poor copy on the internet.

This is becoming one of the funniest posts I've ever seen on here. Keep it going! Heck, I'm gonna search for free movies on the internet now.
DOWN WITH HOLLYWOOD!

First off Wulf, when anyone steals it wrong. Hell I say tariff he shit out of China until they enforce international copy write laws.

Hockeyfan, good to know you don't mind stealing from people you don't like. I guess I'll watch my stuff around you. As a guy who has written alot of software of the years, my bread and butter is based on people paying for it.

That's right, I'm a big time criminal. I watch free movies, tear off those mattress tags and have even taken pens from work. I'm hoping to continue until I make it on America's Most Wanted.
By the way, I'm planning another big caper. I'm going to steal ketchup packets from McDonalds.

beyond my netflix bill, i can't remember the last time i paid to watch a movie or listen to a new cd

upso, want to join my band of merry men? We'll steal from the rich and give to the poor. Movies, ketchup packets, napkins from fast food places, and anything else we want.

Interesting. I guess when a artist creates something it instantly goes into the public domain for free consumption.

It's also interesting where people's morals are.

after seeing the Valentines Day movie last weekend I have no problem stealing from Hollywood since they stole from everybody who saw it

From HockeyFan: want to join my band of merry men?

I'll join. I want to steal virgin sacrifices from various groups of devil worshiping pagans. I'm also up for music, movies, ketchup and food samples given away at supermarkets.

Steal all the movies you want, but for goodness sake DO NOT EAT FOOD SAMPLES!!!!

I about barf every time I am at Andersons and people are hovered over the fecal covered fruit bowl.

posted by Ryan on Feb 19, 2010 at 11:42:18 am     #

God, Ryan, I go to Anderson's just for the feces!

I never reveal my morals. I keep them on a shelf at home so even I'm not sure of what they are.

I find senior days at Andersons quite entertaining. It's like someone threw out plates of meat to dogs. It's like a cartoon. A ball of dust, toothpicks, slober, and the smell of ben-gay all wrapped into one. lol
