Lucas County Early Intervention Program

Anyone out there have any experience with the Early Intervention program that is offered through the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities? My son (who will be 2 this month) is showing signs of being mildly autistic. We have had him evaluated through Harbor Behavioral Healthcare and they recommended the Early Intervention program as one avenue of treatment.

We got an informational packet from the EI that is run out of the East Toledo Family Center. The gentleman assigned to help my son has a degree in business management and history (according to his bio). I would think that someone working with autistic children would have a degree in early childhood development or child psychology. He is coming to our house tomorrow to meet us and my son and I plan to grill him like a old episode of Dragnet. Just wondering if anyone else had any previous or ongoing experience with Early Interventions.

I think things are developing quickly in the field of autism spectrum disorders, so it is entirely possible that the gentleman will be as helpful (or more so) than someone who had a traditional education in early childhood education a few years ago. The library has a pretty good selection of newer books for dealing with the challenges. Best wishes for you & your child.

I cannot comment on Lucas County EI program but the Wood county program is awesome. Our twins are in the program currently and have shown great improvement since being in the program. They showed speech, and coordination problems at the age of one and a half, so they suggest this to us.

At first we had a nurse coming once a month checking up on the kids and their speech and skill improvement, and now they have progressed so much in just a year or so, that she only comes once every 3 months.

They also go to the Jordan Center down in BG twice a week. Both the wife and I have seen great improvement from this in their speech and word pronunciation that were are really glad we decided to send them.
