Big'z Bar in Deveaux Shopping Center?

Does anybody know anything about this place? It opened a few months ago and I can't find any webite or much on their Facebook page. It's close to my neighborhood and I'm just wondering what kind of crowd it caters to.

from the full page ads in the city paper, it looks like a sports bar so ... i'd expect a sporto crowd. :)

Good bar food, and there's a flat screen TV everywhere you look. Crowd gets a lot younger later at night. They will text you food and drink specials a couple times a week if you give them a phone number.

Their pizza is awesome and they have food specials every day. You should check it out. Here's their facebook page:

Typical roid-rage Affliction/Ed Hardy crowd. Good food & beer, but shitty people.

I fully agree WhistleBlower, you can smell the Polo and Jacar three blocks away. The food is decent but everyone in there wears a "tap out" tee shirt (even though they probley haven't been in a fight since 4th grade) and machismo is set to 11.

That being said it is a decent place for a burger and a brew after work.

anyone have experiences with big'z being discriminatory?

if you check out their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bigz-Bar-and-Grill/160283637365549

and click on the notes / dress code link: https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=172429199484326

it clearly looks as though they are discriminating against people of color. my friend just sent me the links and asked me to spread the word

A few thoughts on the "discrimnatory" comment:

1. The prohibited informal styles can be worn by persons of any color. I have seen just as many white people wearing "rapper" styles as I have African Americans. In fact, in my house right now is a friend of one of my kids who is wearing some dopey baggy shorts and an absolute travesty of an Ed Hardy shirt. He looks like a tool IMHO, but he is about as white as kids can be, and he is a rap aficionado.

2. That being said, this ain't New York, and it ain't even Cleveland. Trying to enforce a dress code in a club these days is a sure fire way to lose business. Also, with a name like BIGZ's, they are hardly in a position to claim some elite fashion or cultural status.

3. All bars and restaurants have the right to refuse service for a legitimate reason (unruliness, bad hygiene, showing up just before closing time or after the kitchen is closed, tables where one person wants to eat and nine friends just want to chat, and so on) just as you have the right to stay the fark away from a run-of-the-mill sports bar with an attitude. However, if you have documented evidence that people are being refused service on the basis of color or ethnicity, then discuss the matter with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. Unfortunately, there are tons of legal precedents backing dress codes in entertainment venues. State law prohibits "any proprietor or any employee, keeper, or manger of a place of public accommodation to deny any person the full enjoyment of the accommodations, advantages, facilities, or privileges based on the bases of race, sex, color, religion, age, marital status, national origin, disability, or ancestry." Nothing about wearing baggy shorts or baseball caps sideways - sorry.

I'm telling you that place is full of wanna be tough guy douche bags, you know preppy suburbanite kids who have just had it "so hard" in this world living in Sylvania and the "man" holding them down so they gotta rep hardcore. Imagine the 6 Pack Crowd with less money and less sense.

They are just trying to keep the place from exploding in a rage of red bull/axe body spray filled rage.

Don't get me started on the way people dress in Toledo. A club in New Orleans used the below rule of thumb:

No need to have a dress code, hire Lenny McLean ("Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels") as the doorman:

Just an FYI:

In US employment law, the doctrine of disparate impact holds that employment practices may be considered discriminatory and illegal if they have a disproportionate "adverse impact" on members of a minority group. Under the doctrine, a violation of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act may be proven by showing that an employment practice or policy has a disproportionately adverse effect on members of the protected class as compared with non-members of the protected class.

(That is mainly about employment, but it is applicable in other areas as well)

Fryer who is left in this country as a "protected class"? Pink Slips fall on the heads of the just and the unjust in today's America, the only color that matters now is Green.

Protected classes in Ohio = race, religion, disability, familial status, gender, color, and in the city of Toledo, sexual orientation.

Just saying "well, we enforce this policy against people of any race" doesn't mean a whole lot when the policy has a much, much greater effect on one specific race.
