Wal-Mart at North Towne?

I heard just a blurb this morning about Wal-Mart possibly coming to North Towne.

Any information about this?

they can't put a wal mart there, nothing has survived there, i think it's just a bad Location...but who knows seems wal marts are popping up everywhere these days! Hell, that would be closer to me! There are a few wal marts in Toledo but none close to bedford without a hike and the one in Monroe Blows.

I am surprised someone from Bedford would be FOR Wal-Mart when they almost completely ruined that area when they wanted to open on Sterns.

Boo Wal-Mart!

Isnt there already a Flea-Mart at Northtowne?

Does anyone remember when it was really a very nice mall?

It's a shrine to conspicuous consumption. Nobody cares if you have the latest soon to be unfashionable clothing/jewelry/battle armor. A 1 course meal and a 6 figure debt load is the new meddle class.

Target, Kmart, etc. are starting to follow the Walmart model of non-compensation. They love kids.

Yeah, that's what I was saying to myself just the other day: "What Toledo needs is another Wal*Mart."

... NOT.

Speaking of Ghost Towne, what's happening with that windshield manufacturer I keep hearing (grapevine-ly) is supposed to move into the mall proper?

Walmart is the epitomy of advertising, and marketing. It shows the ability of people (including myself) to think. I have smaller, more expensive stores within a mile of where I live. But I spend the gas money to drive to Wal-Mart (eight miles roundtrip). I admit some things I get cheaper, but if I took a week to do the research I would probably find I am spending more on gasoline that I save for the retail price. Of course, if you live in Bedford Township your life style is supported by a car. And that's why you want no gas taxes, and to target "windfall" gas profits. That's why Wal-Mart looks attractive at Northtowne Square to Bedford inhabitants: "NIMBY", but close enough to save some money shopping. And once the competition is destroyed through "smart" retailing (and stupid shoppers) Wal-Mart will be able to raise their prices in a non-competitive environment in Toledo.

I'm confused; you start your post stating you have the ability to think. Then admit that you probably spend more on gas than you save by shopping there and call yourself a stupid shopper.
So am I correct in assuming that you know you aren;t saving money there, but continue anyways because of tehir marketing strategy?

I think it is laziness on my part. I'm the typical "rational" consumer.

It should revert back to being an airport, and then all the deaf people...never mind.

The North end of Toledo needs a wal mart.

The last thing Toledo needs -- North End or otherwise -- is another Wal*Mart. I would never dare to stop such a development from taking place, but I WILL tell people what a huge mistake it is. Once Wal*Mart drives out even similar places like Meijers, the prices will rise as is done in any monopoly. Going for the cheapest price, all the time, is just cutting your own throat.

Save your breathe GZ, people do not listen. Not when they can immediately save a dime or two. Who cares about the future.

Well, IF - really big IF - a Wal-Mart goes there, everyone will know in advance because the mall would have to be re-zoned and that requires a public notice and then a public hearing. Currently, the vast majority of the mall is zoned industrial - not retail or commercial...

So have you heard anything about this Mags? How can NT not be zoned retail already as it was a mall?

If they do have to rezone I think it would go through. Too many people think WM is a good thing and WM usually gets its way.

They literally have 30 million square feet of abandoned space across the country from moving into bigger sites.

Evil doers!

Ryan - it was rezoned by the new owners quite some time ago, except for the area that includes the retail outlets at the end (health club, etc.).

The new owners wanted to turn it into a sort of industrial incubator and put light industrial operations inside. Actually, it seemed like an idea that could work, considering the surrounding businesses outside the mall road.

The AREIS system can show you the zoning...under the drop-down of 'parcel shading' you can select 'by zoning'...

Also, a search for S.KAHEN HOLDINGS as owner and then looking at the 'data' portion of the information shows most of the property zoned as 'limited industrial.'

There are two parcels that are still zoned retail/commercial, so it's conceivable that a Wal-Mart could go into those areas without rezoning...
