Stealing from the collection plate...

Two Catholic church maintenance workers are accused of stealing money from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sylvania. How despicable do you have to be to steal from your employer and place of worship?

It does not surprise me...it does not matter where they stole from, were going to do it anyways...that's their nature.

At least they weren't molesting the children.

They picked just about the wealthiest parish in the area, a church that also boasts something like 10,000 mkembers, so I'll give them credit for knowing where the cash is located. Still, stealing from Jesus has to be infinitely worse than stealing from the Mob, as I am pretty sure Satan does not offer a witness protection program.

We attend St. Joe's and received the letter from Father Metzger this weekend.

Needless to say, I was quite surprised to hear about the situation.

It just makes me wonder whether those 2 were people who would have been inclined to steal no matter what, or whether they were pushed to desperation by the recent economy?

Either way, what they did was still wrong - I'm just trying to wrap my head around the "why."

Sad any way you look at it.

I will give you the why, it's the same reason there has been a lot of home break-in's and why crime itself seems to be on the uptick, it's not only the nation and local economy, but people are loosing hope with life in general. All they see is that they can't make ends meet and bad economic times can make even the most honest person do something they normally would have never thought of doing.

Did you notice how the church acts swiftly, cooperates with law enforcement, and issues statements when there are crimes against their checkbooks? When it's a crime against a nun or a child, not so much.

No more despicable than raping little boys, killing other Christians during the inquisition or helping Hitler fund his war.

It isn't. Sin is sin in the eyes of the Lord. Murder is just as bad as petty theft.

What made them steal from the collection plate? It's likely they believed that they would get away with it. I know that the collection box was stolen once from the church I attend (non-denominational Christian).
