Table Forty 4 on Monroe Street

I had a tour of the building last week. It is INSANE how much quality work they are putting into the place.

The builder said it would be opening in two weeks, but there was a lot of work yet to be done. he also mentioned the rooftop bar, but said it would be quite a while before they started work on that.

I'm really looking forward to hanging out at this place. It is going to have killer atmosphere.

Hey upso do you know when they open if it's going to be just the first floor or are they using two floors to start?

My understanding is it's just the first floor, which is quite big. At least 3,000 sq ft... more like 4. I think the other floors at this point have not been rehabbed. No idea what their plans are, but I suspect office or residential development will go into the other floors.

Its right across the street from the Blarney, its next to the parking lot where the Ted's Hamburgers building is.

I hope their open by opening day. Does anyone know if there is any plans for the building on N Huron st between Monroe and Washington street (behind the Blarney and across from Fifth Third Field)? There is some great potential for some more restaurants, venues, stores and/or nightlife. Also what ever happend to the idea of closing off N Superior st in between Monroe and Jefferson (behind the Seagate Centre) and turning the street into a mix of shops, restaurants, and nightlife?

I think opening day is their target Aqua.

As for the buildings on huron.. they are occupied by a produce company. While a perfect location for retail and more dining, I don't think the produce people are going anywhere anytime soon.

Sam Okun Produce is located on N Huron street. It would be a great spot for those places, but I don't think the tennants are going anywhere soon... Aqua I remember seeing some sketchings for turning Superior street into an entertainment district. I haven't heard anything lately about that area. I hope they do plan on turning that area into a mix of shops, restaurants and nightclubs.

Anyone know anything about the new bar Players (has the Sargent Peppers banner on the front), across from the arena?

Players is crowded on hockey nights as one would expect. Stopped in after work on non hockey nights and you can shoot a cannon thru it and not hit anyone.

Yes, I drove by and there were people smoking out front and a large OPEN sign hanging off the windows...

We went there last night for drinks. The menu was limited last night, but they said the full menu will be available next week. We tried the clam chowder which was pretty good. Service was good and the place is beautiful inside. Tin ceilings and hardwood floors made me a bit homesick for the bars in Georgetown DC. The bar area is huge - it's more bar than restaurant. I hope they do well.

anyone swing by yet and have some food? I went to the opening party monday night but all they were serving was drinks. the acoustics in there were really bad... it was incredibly loud. I'm really hoping they sort it out because the atmosphere is astounding.

We went there on thursday and had appetizers and drinks.The food was decent.I saw several entrees coming out that looked good.Maybe I will have a reuben next time.

The interior was very well done,but I also thought it was a bit noisy too.I think it is all the hard surfaces that is causing the noise problem.Otherwise we will be going back in the near future.

Newbie, I'm nostalgic for Au Pied Du Cochon every time I see a bowl of french onion soup. That was one of the most comfortable bars to hang out in. But since it closed right before I left DC, I'm happy being here.

Went for lunch today. Great décor, decent menu…..waited 40 minutes for our sandwich order.

I know they just opened recently, but that’s a bit much. Hopefully it was a fluke.

swung by a second time last week and the acoustics continue to be a serious problem for me. when the place is packed the noise just bounces off that tin ceiling in a really bad way. the food was ok. a little overcooked and I had the same problem you did ryan. really slow service. i'm sure they'll eventually get the kinks out.

I met some friends down there last Friday - horribly slow service for a place that just opened. I ordered a beer [not a crazy order - it was a bud light] and it took our server 20 mins to bring it to me. I was on my way to the bar to get it myself and he turned the corner with it. I wondered if I should have ordered my second one right then...mistake. My friends ate and said the food was OK - just the service was very - very slow. If you are going to squeeze in a meal before a game - I wouldn't risk it. If you have nowhere to be and want to become frustrated waiting for your stuff - head that way.

We were there on Saturday and the service was fine, though we were at the bar and only ordered cocktails. I don't think it's fair to be judging them too harshly considering they've only been open... two weeks?

I'll give them a couple of months before I make up my mind about them.

My friends and I went there last Friday as well. We waited for over 40 minutes and not one person came to our table to wait on us. We ended up having to go to the bar for our drinks. I discussed this the next day with the manager, who was very apologetic. I was hoping that we were the only ones, but it sounds like a larger problem. Same as valbee, I will give it a few more tries before I render a solid opinion.

I cannot wait to try table 44. It looks great.

Players food is actually very good and low priced. That is our new fav hang out downtown.

We met up with some friends at Table 44 before they went to the Arena for the Brad Paisley concert. I had read the previous posts about the acoustics so I was prepared for it to be loud. It was. The place was packed and they had a band playing. It had all the acoustical ambiance of a full throttle jet engine. Even with the band on break, you had to shout to be heard across the table. I like the stamped tin ceiling but maybe that is the culprit in such a large place with hardwood floors? That being said, except for a minor glitch on a side order, our food and service were very good. We all stuck with standard pub grub (chix sand, turkey sand, burgers) but everyone was very happy with their selections. The chipotle slaw was very good. Our server was attentive, but not overbearing and kept us topped off despite the large crowd.

I heard the the place is a joint effort between the owner of the Chop House in Maumee and the owner of LaScola on Airport. Not sure if that is accurate but two older gents were keeping themselves and the staff busy servicing customers.

It was a pretty good night overall and a lot of fun on that corner. With the Blarney and Papalis there you have three pretty solid choices. The area was, dare I say it, teeming with people who all seemed to be having a very good time.

We (three of us) went for dinner prior to attending the Hens game last night - first time there for all of us.

If you are interested, you can read my full review at yelp.com. Yes, the place is EXTREMELY loud and the service doesn't appear to have improved much from the posts above. I really can't blame our server as she appeared to be overwhelmed though it would have been nice if she had actually stopped at the table long enough to hear our replies to her shouted query of "everything good here?" as she flew by. She did this repeatedly.

Will we give them another try? Perhaps. But I won't be in any hurry to do so. Considering what top shelf dining establishments (IMHO) The Maumee Chop House and La Scola are, I expected better.

Is anyone actually sure that the La Scola owners are partners?

When I heard discussion about it, it was Hassan (sp?) from the Chop House and Jim Mettler (formerly of the Port Authority) that were starting the business.

Moussah Salouk and Gus Nicolideus (both spelled wrong) own La Scola.

I've never heard La Scola. Just Chophouse.

My apologies if La Scola is not part of the venture - I obtained that info from here. Prior to that, I had only heard Chop House as well.

My husband & I walked past there last night on our way to/from the Mud Hens game.

We both thought the "patio" with the sliding doors was a pretty cool idea & that it looked like a nice place to eat a meal. (And I'd imagine the acoustics aren't an issue with the outdoor seating.). If we hadn't had the kids with us, we would definitely have stopped in for a drink.

Side note - I noticed Ben Konop on the patio after the game.
