What is anyones opinion on this now that they have a week to play? I have no iphone, but wonder what the learning curve is on Ipad for email, web browsing and occasional apps. Can you print to a wireless computer with wi-fi? better than a netbook?

Looks nice, but way to much money. You can get a nice notebook/laptop for the same amount.
However, I did buy a ipod Touch recently and absolutely love it. It's replaced my aging Palm pilot as a PDA. I can check email, browse the net almost as good as my home PC. Heck some of my TT posts have been from it.
It's very easy to use and there are a ton of apps out there to do just about anything you want, even gaming.
For what was initially supposed to be a music player, I use my Touch about as much as my home PC for general use. There is even a ssh client and have used it remotely to work in a pinch.
So in that respect an iPad is a larger Touch/iPhone minus the phone and some extra hardware bells and whistles. Was happy to see they is a Netflix app for watching streaming movies. Though it's iPad only and won't work on my Touch.

If they would bring the price down to about 299 maybe even 350 I would highly consider it, but beyond that it's a bit to rich for my blood when a notebook can do a lot more.

The ipad was officially released on Apr 3, 2010. Two days earlier, Ed Roberts died. Roberts "designed the first commercially successful personal computer in 1975." The Altair. A big metal box with switches and blinking red lights. A co-worker had an Altair, so I got to poke around the inside of it. The interesting changes in personal computing in 35 years.
Oh, the Altair also inspired the beginnings of mildly successful software company. ".. the first programming language for the machine was Microsoft's founding product, Altair BASIC."
I ordered a 64gig wifi+3g model a couple of weeks ago. The hard part now is the wait! They don't arrive til late April.

If you want to multi-task at all, then don't bother with the iPad. Multi-task means running 2 programs at once (IE: listening to music and browsing the web at the same time). If you want to be sleek and trendy and spend a bunch of money in order to do so, then go for the iPad. It is very pretty and stream-lined. Otherwise, I have nothing good to say about it. Personally, I'm waiting for the Adam by Notion Ink.
Mesmerix: I may stand corrected but it should handle multi-tasking well. The iPad/touch/iPhone are all based on the same code that's related to OS X.
Know from my own use my Touch can have an AIM, Yahoo, Facebook client (email as well) running in the background while I'm listening to music and surfing the net. Then when an instant message or Facebook update or email get's posted I get a screen overlay showing me the message even if I'm in another app, then I can easily switch between them to respond.

yup. ipad will have multi tasking some point this year
I second INeedCoffee's love of the iPod touch.
I got mine off Craig's list used and at a wonderful price and I have no complaints.
There are a ton of apps, and many of them are free. There literally is an app for everything. I listen to my iPod for 8 hrs at work everyday and with the Wifi turned off during this time, only 5% of the battery is used up.
I'm not a nut about Apple products, but I do love my Touch. Looking forward to the 4.0 update.
IMO, wait a fwe months for all the features and perks to be added before buying one.

Google is soon expected to begin selling its version of a slate computer, like Apple’s iPad. Google has been working with several hardware manufacturers to push its Android software, which was originally designed for mobile phones and is a direct competitor to Apple’s iPhone operating system.
H.P. is also working on a slate that would run the Android system; this has been nicknamed “the half-pint,” because it measures about six inches diagonally, smaller than the iPad. H.P.’s version of the iPad is expected to be released by midyear. Notably, it will have a camera, as well as ports for add-on devices, like a mouse. Acer, Dell and Lenovo all have slates in the works as well.micah: you mentioned the one you bought has 3g, does that mean it will also work with 3g providers like Verizon? If so that is pretty nifty. Will have to look over the hardware specs again didnt know about that one.

jr: good point. When my Verizon contract was up I wanted to get a smart phone preferably an Android. The rep at Verizon said they had no plans on carrying Android phones so I went with a low end phone paid 100% cost so I wouldn't have to get another contract. Literally two weeks later Verizon announced the Droid lol, was frustrated but it's the way it is.
My spin on Android vs iPhone. As a developer I would prefer the droid. Heck before it was even really out there, I had a full SDK and emulator running under Linux and could develop anything I wanted for free.
On the flip side if you want to develop for the iPhone you have to invest in a intel based Mac and use Cocoa/carbon SDK for that platform.
I do love the iPhone/Touch platform but it's a nice size investment from the developer side just to get into the market. Plus you're at the mercy of Apple's store if they want to allow you to sell the app.
Happy with both platforms from the end user side though. Btw writing this on my Touch.

I have had my moto droid for about a month, I love it for a fun/personal phone.
I still love my work blackberry, great for email.
