Two Marathons this Weekend

Wanted to give people the heads up that the Happy Trails 5k at Wildwood Metropark is this Saturday and on Sunday is the Maumee Bay Triathlon at Maumee Bay State Park.

I'll be volunteering there, any other TT'ers going or participating?

If one wanted to start running and getting involved in Marathons and/or Walk for [BLAH] fundraisers, how would one go about finding out about them?

I mean, I had no idea these marathons even existed before your post.

Toledo Road Runners, $20 to become a member and you get a monthly newsletter with registration info for upcoming runs. Team Toledo Traithlon Club, $20 (I think) to become a member and they hold training sessions all summer. The title of the thread is a little misleading. Marathons are runs that equal 26.2 miles, half-marathons equal 13.1, and 5K runs are 3.1 miles. Triathlons have different lengths depending on whats provided.

Columbus Marathon is October 17, 2010!

I looked around and aside from Ryan's link didn't find any central place that list them all. I only found out via a local amateur radio club.
Here are the ones I know of:
Maumee Bay Triathlon
Happy Trails 5k
Glass City Marathon (biggest one)
Sylvania Super Kids (children only)
Sylvania Triathlon

First two are again this weekend, Glass City Marathon I believe was at the end of April, so we still have the Sylvania ones which both take place on a Sat/Sun.

When I get dates for those I'll gladly post them here.
Think the Toledo Roadrunners participate in all of the adult ones, and probably more.

Also this Saturday, June 19 is the annual MudHen Hash House Harries (MH4) Red Dress Hash Run, which will involve downtown Toledo. It's a drinking group with a running problem. It'll be about a 150 guys and gals, including many out-of-towners, all wearing red dresses, running around downtown, drinking beer, and singing crude songs. Always remember, you're only young once, but you can be immature forever, and rehab is for quitters.

I have always wanted to do the Hash Run, it sounds awesome! toledoroadrunners.org has an event calendar that lists all the local and surronding areas runs for each month. If you have never been to one, it is always worth it to try. I know the zoo has a 5K, there is one in Maumee in Novemeber, etc.

There was around 650 people at the race today, and brought in just over 10k for the local parks and trails.

Awesome morning.

That's what we need downtown. A bunch of idiots running around drinking and being obnoxious.

I thought that was called Party in the Park.

Have you ever been to a racing event? Probably the nicest people you will ever meet. Plus, people spending money downtown. How is that a bad thing? I dont think I heard of any news reports of the runners flipping cars or trashing downtown.

And here we go.....
the above posted event did not emphasize runners or running. It looks like an excuse to drink. There is no emphasis on running or that any money was going to be spent downtown. Clicking on the link, you can see there is little emphasis on the race. It is more about drinking, partying, and coming up with a cute name.
To each their own, I just feel that it's probably not a high priority on most runner's calenders.
