I have a 2006 Mustang GT and I want to make it sound louder/aggressive/throaty. It needs more 'tude! LOL.... It is red with white racing stripes from hood to trunk- LeMans type.
I have been told by my 18 year-old autobody grad son that I need a new exhaust. Suggestions have been Borla, Flowmaster and Cherry Bomb.
Does anyone out there know which is better and where I should get it done as economically as possible?
I know it sounds silly but I have had Stangs go by me that rumble the ground and I kinda want that! (:
Speaking of Mustangs......

Before they put all this computer crap in vehicles I used to run straight pipes on all my trucks. Now with all the computer stuff they have in vehicles you can't do that anymore.
Personally I would go with Flowmaster. That's what I have on my pickup and couldn't be happier with the sound.
Here is a comparison they did with a 2006 mustange.

Then look over on the right hand side and it says S197 Mustang muffler comparison

And either Keystone Automotive in P-burg or Diversified truck auto and off-road should be able to do it for you.

ifrost: Did it increase horsepower and/or milage?

Never thought about it really. I just drive and when I need gas I put more in. Never really worried about horsepower or gas mileage. It sounds really cool though :)

You people make it hard for me to listen to my music at max volume! :()
Check with Roush Performance. You could drive to Detroit and have anything you want professionally installed by someone who knows what they're doing.
Madjack: You said the one word that makes me melt..... ROUSH! I came damn close to getting a Roush Stang and that is really a good idea as well..... I need a drink now! (:

Yeah? Then dig on this...
Many years ago, a long time back, little Mad Jack saw the most amazing thing on the street where he lived. A class 'A' Altered dragster! It had eight exhaust pipes and made enough noise to rattle the windows in the house. This made an impression on whatever it was that passed for little Mad Jack's mind.
Years passed and little Mad Jack turned into post-delinquent street racing Mad Jack, who attended Monroe County Community College in Monroe, MI where I majored in Automotive Technology. We had two instructors, one old and one young. The young one kept his Mach I Mustang race car in the shop and would occasionally pull hole shots with it in the parking lot. His name was Jack Roush.
His classes were well attended and if you wanted to build an engine from the block up he'd help you. A few students did this, and if they were building a 429 Ford they'd get the opportunity to buy a few racing parts that were not yet on the market.
Flowmaster for sure. Rumble, rumble, rumble...

Anything you do with exhaust that reduces the restiction of mufflers and smaller pipes will increase horsepower. But don't expect to put on a bigger exhaust and pull wheelies. It's really not that much of difference.
I doubt it would be cost wise to change the entire exhaust system. The best bang for your buck would be to just change the muffler from stock to flowmaster or cherry bomb. Both of these will give you that "noise" you're looking for and keep it cost effective.
madjack: I bow to you... I am not worthy! LOL... I love my Stang but there are days that I kinda wished I got the Roush. I have been a Mark Martin fan since 1979 when he raced here in ASA in Toledo. Bought two Thunderbirds because of it.
My dad was a tool and die engineer here in Toledo- part owner of RCW Peterson and Associates. He and I would talk cars a racing all of the time. WHen he moved to Naples, Fla., he would call after each NASCAR race and we would critique the drivers. He knew I always wanted the Mustang, since I was a kid. Kinda weird for a "chick", I know, but something about the rumble just does it for me.
When my dad passed, he left a not for me in the will to go out and get my dream car. I looked online for months and went to Brondes where they had a black Roush Stage II. I had the cash for it and I wrestled with the idea for weeks... Being a single mom, I could not see myself plunking down that kind of money. So, I found this Stang, which I love driving. I now just want the throaty/rumble sound.
hockeyfan: Thanks for the advice. Hopefully it does not cost too much.

Golddustwoman, its not wierd for a chick at all. Mine was an 89 5.0.
However if you want to save a little money, check out summit racing to see what the cost is and take it to a mechanic to have them installed.
part owner of RCW Peterson?!
Sure, I remember them! They had about anything one 16 year old could ever wish for.
I can understand passing on the Stage II. It's going to be expensive, you don't know if the previous owner red lined it when it was low on oil or took it over a set of RR tracks at 90+ mph. Then there are the care and feeding issues... do not expect low cost driving, no matter what.
Yes, madjack... I can still smell the oil used in the machine shop- RCW also owned Midwest Fluid Power, which still exists, and the oil used in the machines is a smell you never forget!
Yes, I don't expect low-cost driving but I do intend on taking care of this Stang for a very long time.
Trust me, I would thoroughly LOVE to deck it out in ROUSH everything, but, for now, my 18 and 16 year old boys refuse to move out so I gotta keep feeding them...LOL..
All this ROUSH talk- I need a smoke!
tm2: I will check summit racing!
Thanks for all the suggestions!
