Best gyro in town?

J&G in Sylvania, hands down.

The Gyros @ Mano's are great.

I am now hungry. I do remember having a very good one at Rumors.

The Wing Station on the corner of Secor and Sylvania. Phenomenal gryos for somewhere in the $4.00 range. Thanks for posting this - you just decided what my dinner will be tonight. I think they have been there for about ten years. It's not a fly by night franchise - locally owned. Also great salads.

Tie between J&G's and Wings Express (aka Wings Station). Both equally good.

Gyro on the Cone at Sahara's on Dussel and Holland.

Sams Deli at Stickney & Matzinger or Wales & I75. They put Feda cheese on theirs,different, but good. And good old Rudy's Hot Dog due to a really good sauce.

J&G's is great, Charlies is ok...Wing Station
is similar to Rumors.. But Rumors is the best...It is a combination of good sauce and the right spice...a little crispy on edges..as opposed to commercially sold meat..like those awful olgas..overpriced

Gyro and Kabob Express at Airport and Holloway in Holland.

The one at Coney Island at the mall (pre-Westfield transformation) was always so good.

We use the Wings Station (I guess it's now called Wings Express?) on Byrne at Glendale (a few doors down from Doc Watson's) and yum yum yum, we've been getting gyros from them for years.

I did notice the last time we ordered from them a couple of months ago that there seemed to be slightly less meat than what we've come to expect. It wasn't different enough, though, to stop us from going back to Wings Station the next time we want gyros.

I'm headed to J&G's in Sylvania this evening. Excellent gyros!

my vote is for wing station, it would be rumors if they used thicker bread. Manos has great gyros too.

Rumors is my pick. They have the best Mediterranean food. And the portions they serve are huge. The Greek Festival is coming up in September. I always take bags of stuff home from there. Can't wait.

All these plugs for Rumors I am going to have to check it out. I always thought it was a bar that served food vs a restaurant with a bar.

For those who like to cook (and I LOVE to cook) do yourself a favor and buy the cookbook they sell at the Greek Festival - I think it's called "Olives, Feta, Phylo and More..."

Great cookbook. Many of the recipes are actually quite simple. Some are more difficult - but worth the effort.

And don't forget to give Dora a great big hug (she typically works the cash register at the large food court on the south side of the Festival).

Agreed. Followed closely by the German American Festival which is where I will be spending a large part of my weekend.

Lots of new things this year for the GA Festival - such as being able to buy tickets online in advance at a discount. Or multi day passes at even bigger discounts.

I haven't found a very good one yet. I found J&G's pretty substandard and bland (love their pizza, though). Gyro Town beat J&G's, which isn't saying all that much.

Zingo's in downtown Perrysburg for the best gyro. Hubby is a real gyro hound; I've watched him eat them at Charlie's, Manos, Ahmed's, and many many other places. He says Zingo's is the best he's ever had, and he knows whereof he speaks!

I gotta agree that J & G does have some amazing gyros as well as pizza but a close second would have to be Ya Halla on Alexis Rd. I don't know if it's their gyro sauce or what but it give J & G a run for their money.

Annie, a knife and fork! the thing is so packed with meat and the pita is so thin, you CANNOT eat it with your hands. :)

Went to Zingo's tonight. Their gyro blows J&G's away. Best I've had in town, by far.

Well, that's a tough one because I'm not sure I would say it's the best I've ever had, or anything. And there are still a few places in Toledo I need to try.

I thought the meat was cooked well and the flavor of the meat & tzatziki was strong and good. In comparison to J&G's, especially, which I find really, really bland. J&G's is a much larger sandwich, which isn't really a selling point for me.

I've always had the best luck at Greek festivals, really.

So, in other words, I don't know if there's is exceptionally special...it's just the best I've had in town so far and I plan on going back.

Toledo Talk is an economic stimulus! We tried out J&Gs Friday night since so many of you liked the gyro. Hubby agrees with dhr's description. I tried the pizza; it was good. The sign out front and interior decor were a real blast from the past. Anyone who wants to experience an authentic 1960's wallpaper vibe should definitely go there. Bonus: a young street musician playing his guitar outside. Hope he doesn't get run off by police.

My wife and I ordered a pizza from J&G's on Friday (carryout), as well. I noticed the street musician outside, as well.

Gonna sound strange but they make a great gyro at sidelines (original) in Lambertville. also see Mike atthe Bier Stube on Monroe Street he makes a bice gyro! :)

Had to take the 4 legged, furry child for therapy last evening out in Sylvania.

Afterward, had a terrible craving for Gyros and I remembered this thread so we ordered up a couple of Gyros and a small pizza to go from J&G - hadn't been there in ages. The place was packed with people waiting outside.

Both items were very good. I couldn't believe how much gyro meat was stuffed into the pita - enough for two people to enjoy. But, as dhr mentioned above, I did find it to be a bit bland.

The pizza was tasty - especially liked the cheese but, overall, I found it a bit too greasy and the (thin) crust was "ok".

I still have to give the nod to Inky's for pizza and to Manos for gyros. Of course, IMHO, THE best gyros are those we get at the Greek Festival but those will have to wait until next year.

I will have to remember that about Manos. Last time we were there for lunch I was very unimpressed with my mousakka(sp).

I've only had the one at Grape Leaf Diner and it's been too legit to quit. But I am willing to venture out and try these other places listed.

We always liked the gyros at Wings Station, but it's been a few months since we've been there, so I was unaware that they'd changed their name, or that they may have cut back a little on the meat. If so, too bad; I could never eat all of one in one setting, so it was good for lunch the next day too! Also like their Greek salad...

I have been to Gyro & Kabob Express out on Airport a few times since I started this thread... I've been pleased. It's somewhat on my way home from work which makes it convenient. I will try the others listed here though.
