Need some tree work done

Does anyone know of any reputable folks who do tree work? Ive got a couple major branches that need taken down and hauled away (by major, I mean where they attatch to the tree trunk is about as big around as a man's waist...)

Anybody you like? Anybody to stay away from?

I would pay the 5 buck or whatever and use Angieslist.

I tried two different people from Craigslist for my miscellaneous yard work and both sucked.

Or maybe you can call a tree removal place and ask who they would recommend for smaller jobs like that?

Try Jerry's tree service. 419-206-7028. Had a large crew for a big job, these guys busted a&&.

Chris Hansen 567-225-3076, he trimmed our huge maple out front using a sling set-up, no cherry-picker, 2-3 hours work for $175. He cleaned the yard well and the tree looks great!!

That article is about 13 months old. From the June or July 2009 issue.

He oughta get a website - and keep the same phone number.

We're in the same boat -- some big branches that need to come down. Unfortunately, they also have power or telephone lines right near them.

I went online and filled out a form for First Energy to cut them back, but never received a response. Has anyone else had a utility come out and trim? Do you know how long it takes to get a response?

I have three people coming over - Jerry's, Chris Hansen, and one I'd gotten from someone else.

I'll let you know who gets the nod, and the quality of work they performed

I have used Aaron's tree service....at my old house in toledo and new one in PBurg. Highly recommend. They were the first in the phone book I called, and the quote came back so low that I never called anyone else.

I'd use Chris Hanson. While he's in the neighborhood he can catch any predator's that are around to!

ooh - chris hanson didnt show up last night for the estimate and didnt call me to tell me he was standing me up. Must've been out busting predators, but he lost a customer...

I wouldn't recommend City Tree Service out of Holland. A few years back, they were cutting trees in my cousin's neighborhood and when they tried to move a particularly heavy piece of trunk, their truck tipped over and they dropped the trunk on the homeowner's car. Nooot goooood.

If y''all don't mind sharing, would you post what a "very good price" is?

My mom needs some tree work done at her house, but has pretty much decided to "let God trim the trees" during thunderstorms. She has had people out who are quoting her $1,000 to cut 4 branches....and no, they are not at the top of 150 trees! We're talking about dead branches on the lower 1/2 of the trees, away from any buildings.

The names are great, but if you can give a price range you were quoted for service, that'd be cool too.

last night Ruiz tree service quoted me $350 to take down two branches (huge ones - as big as my waist at the trunk) and haul them away.

I should point out tho, that my branches, while very large, are the proverbial 'easy button... Front yard, right by the street, can be reached by the bucket trucks from the driveway, and no powerlines etc to get in the way...

sorry Chris stood you up, but maybe I should have thot a little more about recommending him. I really honestly did forget that he was the guy who had my check stolen out of his unlocked truck and caused me a week's worth of anguish over it (but it turned out fine, didn't hurt me). forget I said anything.

I've used Allen Enterprises (Chris Allen) for some tree work. He cut down a large tree (overhanging power lines) and a couple of smaller trees for $1000 -- this did not include stump removal. My neighbors have also used him and seem satisfied.
His number is 419-350-3175.

AND THE WINNER IS:

Jerrys! Thanks for the recommendation to TM2! Jerry came in $100 cheapest for just the limb work, and FIVE HUNDRED cheaper for removal of the whole thing. $750 to take out a large tree AND grind the stump out is a very good deal.

BTW, jerry showed up to quote me WITH his bucket truck and crew, and quoted his price and said he could begin immediately. From 6pm to dark they got everything taken down but the trunk, and had chipped up all the branches and stacked the salvageable wood. A friend or someone came with a trailer and loaded up most of the wood, and as I write theyre there already finished with the cutting, and are now grinding out the stump. note - the price included tree and wood removal, but NOT the removal of the detrius from the stump grinding, so I'll have to bag that up and see who wants some fresh mulch

Billy:

How big would you say the tree was? We need one taken down that is 100+ feet and in between us and the neighbor's house...

billy: you did get a good deal. Five or six years ago I paid $1,200 to have a large Locust tree removed from my front yard about 20 feet in from the street. Price did include grinding out the stump, removing the chips and back filling with topsoil and they (Blanchard) did a great job.

But I still believe you got a very good price. I've learned the hard way that it's worth paying the pros to do this as opposed to non-pros. They have the equipment, expertise and, most importantly, the commercial liability insurance!
