As jr wrote in Nov. 2009: "It always comes across that everyone is sitting on an infinite supply of entertainment dollars, and we're waiting for something new to open so we can increase our spending. Or a bunch of wealthy hermits exist who have been waiting their entire lives for a casino to open in Toledo."
I just read a retail analysis of casino customers: "... a healthy chunk of the industry today is made up of female gamblers. A magic moment in the gaming industry came when the casinos realized they were making more income off slot machines than they were off table and card games. To put it bluntly, they were making more money off of the female player than they were off the male ones.
... Among the female-friendly lures of this successful and surprising evolution has been the deliberate theming of slot machines to evoke women's nostalgic memories for the television shows they probably watched growing up - 1960s TV fare such as Gilligan's Island, The Beverly Hillbillies, and I Dream of Jeannie." -Paco Underhill, What Women Want
Now I understand the Hollywood theme of the new casino ... not so much Marilyn and James Dean, more like Ginger/Mary Ann and Andy Griffith!
Funny you should post this because that's exactly what my grandma, mom and myself are going to do tomorrow. They play their slots, and I play my Texas hold'em and video poker.
I have to say though that when I go up to Michigan it's a mix of both female and males playing slots.
My husband's mom, grandma, & great-aunt make regular casino trips. Sometimes just to Detroit or Windsor, but they also often take weekend trips to other states. (Usually bus trips.)
I've been on a trip or two with them - they have so much fun, its a real hoot.
Of course, they don't spend more than they can afford or get in over their heads.
They are already planning to hit the Hollywood Casino when it opens - I might join them just for kicks.
its the equivalent of guys' fishing trips...they go to relax, have a good time and see what they catch!! ;p
New idea...Chippendales-themed slot machines?
Justarev, LOL! I wonder if there will be bridal showers and stuff like that at the casino, for a slightly naughty girls' night out?
Reviving this post because I just drove by the casino tonight and it looks beautiful! Earlier in the construction phase, I assumed the parking garage would be a big old plain structure (like Toledo Hospital's, or Franklin Park Mall's). But since then, many finishing details have been added. It really looks attractive. I think having the building face I-75 traffic caused the developers to spend extra money on the facade.
