Toledo Talk

Another uber-biased article in the Blade

This morning the Blade published an article regarding teacher salaries in area school districts. In it, they post specifics on teacher salaries in four local school districts, but the information is far from complete.

Knowing the top and bottom of the data pool doesn't allow anyone to make an educated evaluation of the material presented. In order to evaluate the data, one needs to know the mean (average) wages paid. This basic understanding of data evaluation is taught in middle and high school math, but apparently not remembered by the article's author Christopher Kirkpatrick.

I find this publications distasteful. Can the Blade be anymore anti school / anti union? Of all the people who deserve to be paid well, it is our teachers.

I know a number of teachers, they earn every penny. Imagine what it is like teaching groups of spoiled brats who dont want to be there...whine all day...and then the parents offer a total lack of support.

To boot, the teachers have to keep their education up to date. That they have to go and pay for continued education out of pocket to keep their license. Atop that, most teachers pay for a good chunk of supplies in the classroom.

Actually, the median (half above/half below) would be more useful to know in this circumstance. The mean (average) can be weighted to one side or another depending upon the sample.

I totally agree, OK, this kind of thing is disgusting to me. Just another example of the Blah creating news. Don't the teachers have enough to worry about? leave em alone. Better yet, Mr. Block, subsidize them so there will be readers for your stupid rag in the future.

There is a lot of news in Toledo, yet this is the dribble produced.

It seems anyone in the Blade's sights that makes above the low 30s is labeled as overpaid, unless of course you've kissed the right rings.

You have to see the larger picture. The Blade is attempting to cut employe pay and they can't easily do that if others, such as teachers and factory workers, are making more. The target is to lower everybodies pay so The Blade will have something at which to point. Share the poverty perhaps.
