I must say, I went into this movie wanting to hate it. I was actually kind of angry when I heard they were remaking a John Wayne classic, but I absolutely LOVED this movie. It was very similar to the original, even much of the dialogue was the same, and I thought it was extremely well acted and would see it again in a heartbeat. It would make a great Christmas day family movie...as long as you don't have any little ones. Merry Christmas all!
I watched True Grit today...

Not a remake of the John Wayne classic, but rather another filmed version of the book by Charles Portis.
Listen up and listen tight pilgrims. It’s a dammed fine adaptation of the book. But, I’m not gonna hit ya, I’m not gonna hit ya, the hell I’m not gonna hit ya. Signed: The Duke- Newport Beach, California
I saw it as well. It's a lot darker than the original version and I'm told it follows the book much more closely. I enjoyed it tremendously and recommend it to all adults.
It's hard to beat The Duke but this version is worth the price of the ticket.
Excellent movie - very well written script/dialog and all performances were very good. Josh Brolin's part could have been expanded me thinks.

The previews and trailers looked interesting - I will probably venture out to see it this week.

Thanks for the lead-in, justarev. I would be in favor of seeing Josh Brolin's parts expand too ;-)
Apparently, Viola will not be f*#king Matt Damon...

OldHome, I loved the brief glimpse I got of Sarah Silverman while I was at the library computer. Too many little kids around for me to fully enjoy the show ... I will go back, with headphones!
We saw it last night -- solid job by the cast. We were roped into $12.50 tix because we didnt want to wait an hour - but oh well, it was NYE.
Good movie- great/instant classic - no.

Oldhometown: thanks for the laugh; I had forgotten about the faux Kimmel-Damon feud. Hilarious!

Your welcome.
And to add another "adult" movie (a.k.a. it has a plot) to this list, go see "The King's Speech" with Colin Firth & Geoffrey Rush. Excellent performances and, for students of history, a great story about how Queen Elizabeth's father conquered his stammer.

My wife and I watched True Grit last night. Excellent movie. There will never be another John Wayne, but Jeff Bridges does a good job.
If I had to nitpick at all, I'd say, in comparing the two movies, John Wayne seemed to be more natural in the character of Rooster Cogburn. Bridges characterization was just a tad over the top. Still i all a very entertaining movie.
BTW, though his part in the movie is fairly short, Barry Pepper was great as Lucky Ned Pepper.
