Is it possible to sprain your ankle/foot without remembering doing anything to it? I woke up this morning and the top of my ankle is a bit swollen and I can barely put any weight on it. Spending NYE with it elevated and iced, lol. Party! Just thought it was odd that it came from nowhere. Thanks for any advice.
Weird question about sprains...

In a word, yes, and not just by being blotto and blacking out. I twisted my ankle some years ago and thought nothing of it at the moment, but the next day it had swollen to at least twice its normal size.
Also, it is possible to tear tendons, break bones, or sprain joints in one's sleep. I found quite a few hits for "sprained my ankle while sleeping," and people contort their bodies into all kinds of weird positions in their sleep. Once I though I tore my ACL in my sleep, but it turned out (luckily) to be just a nasty cramp.

Interesting, thanks. Maybe that is it, because I do have a bit of RLS and have woke up before with my leg off the bed and foot kind of swinging around.
Heck yeah. Two years ago I dropped a piece of flagstone on the top of my foot. It hurt and I iced right away. Pain subsided and I went back to work with the flagstone the same afternoon. Then recently I had to have an xray of that foot for an urelated reason. The doc asked me when I had broken the top my of foot! Weird or what?
I've had that happen before, as well as with bruises that seem to "suddenly" appear. Eventually, I will remember I did something a day or two before - turned the wrong way, or hit my toe on a table leg. Then the pain goes away, but will sometimes re-emerge a couple days later when I've forgotten about how it got that way. Hope you feel better.
thats interesting. ive woken up with some nasty bruises before and have no clue how it happened.
