Restaurant help from the best..

has me asking a question for the TT pros:)

One of these days we are going to treat ourselves to a great steak dinner. Do we go to Mancy's? Do we go somewhere else?

Although I haven't been there in years, Ahmed's used to have the best steaks anywhere IMO.

If you want to go a bit more upscale, Mancy's or Rockwell's

Mancys if atmosphere is important. I agree that Rockwells is also great, but it can get pricy.

Both Mancys and Rockwells have good steaks, but if you've not been to the Frog Leg Inn in Erie, I would suggest you try it. We love their steaks, especially their filet served with a blue cheese wine sauce (if they're still serving it - they change their menu often). They also have a nice selection of boutique wines that you don't normally see by the glass at area restaurants.

Their service is great and prices are less than you'd expect for such generous portions of fine food.

Mancy's, Frog Leg Inn, and Fifi's (their prices have gone down)

Best steak I have had in a long time was at
Angelo's Northwood Villa. Doesnt look like much from the outside, but when you walk in - Oh Baby! its like going back to old Vegas!
They have a website - but I dont know how to post it here.

Mancy's - period.

I've been to Rockwells na dpiad over $100 for a dinner for 2 that was unimpressive and bland. My stake, had no seasoning, no flavor, and the cooking technique was something I could do at home. Rockwells is overpriced, and unimpressive.

To stray from the usual. I would suggest Trotter's but would also say go to the one in BG. Also have had a good steak at J Alexander's.

Thanks for the help! Ahmeds is good, haven't been there in a while. They're affordable, too.

I've heard both about Mancy's....great place and overrated. That's why we've never tried it.

Pretty sad when our teenage son has been on a date to Angelo's before us! Haha! That may be the winner because of that!!

Adam's Place on Laskey. We dined there recently (first time ever) and the meal was outstanding. I had the steak and perch combo - the steak was arguably the best I've had in a restauraunt in a very long time.

No quarrel with Mancy's either. Incredible steaks.

As for anything in the Oliver House, I've not been able to set foot back in that building ever since the health dept. shut it down some years back due to a massive rodent infestation. Ugh!

When I think "nice steak dinner in Toledo" Mancy's is the first I think of. Its our go-to place when we want nice atmosphere and guaranteed (at least so far!) excellent food. I am not a huge fan of Mancy's Italian or Shorty's, but you absoutely can't go wrong with a steak from the original Mancy's.

Earlier this year the wife and I met with some motorcycling friends at a little place on Main street in Delta called "The Gathering Place". They had the tastiest prime rib I ever had, and it was very reasonable.

the gathering and whitehouse inn are owned by the same person

The best NY Strip that I have tasted in Toledo was at Avenue Bistro on Central Ave. It has been ages since I have been in the place but I haven't heard any complaints.

Angelo's Northwood Villa is my first choice, closely followed by Mac and Tong's at Central and Talmadge. Both places have an excellent atmosphere, although I'm a little partial to the Northwood Villa.

Avenue Bistro on Central is also very good, but the place tends to be a little noisy for me. During the high point of the lunch rush you can barely hear yourself think.

Fifi's Restaurant serves really weird food at really high prices and provides really crappy service. But if you want to be seen somewhere, Fifi's is one place to go. Just stand at the bar and make one glass of white wine last an hour or two and you'll fit right in - and you'll get out for less than $50. Maybe.

Mancy's downtown is fine if you don't mind waiting, and if you don't mind the regular customers being seated ahead of you after you've been waiting 30 minutes for a table. Mancy's does this on purpose and it's the main reason why I refuse to eat at Mancy's.

I haven't been to Rockwell's, but a reliable gourmand informs me that the prices are higher than even I can imagine and the dining experience barely lives up to the cost. So, if you think nothing of spending $100 per person on dinner, try Rockwell's.

I've eaten at Adam's Place over on Laskey and I agree with Foodie. The food is first rate, and I am now making myself a note to get back over there for a steak.

I've eaten at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in several cities, and while it's true the quality is in a class of it's own the prices are prohibitive. Yes, you get what you pay for. Note that those who know me will tell you that I do not drive a Rolls Royce, even though it's still the best value on the planet.

chin-chin as they say at Fifi's.
