Checked out the Heights last night (The 12th floor bar inside the Rennaisance Hotel), among several other places. First off-Really incredible space and view. I can see this being a downtown destination. Decent bar program, mediocre beer and wine. Good munchies and service. Only major complaint, it's way too brightly lit-you can't see out the windows very clearly with the full reflection. Outside seating is nice, the barrier around the bar though, is at eye level if you sit in the lounge-y chairs. Pretty minor complaints. This feels like a bar for grown up. It was fairly full at 10:30 last night. Most seats inside and at the bar were occupied. I wonder how many were hotels guests.
I had a couple of colleagues stay in the Renaissance this week. They are Italian and well traveled. They were really surprised by the hotel, felt like it was the type of place you'd find in Europe, not a typical, boring American hotel. They loved it.-Interesting praise.
Also-wife and I were kind of dining around last night-I really can't overstate this-Kengo is the best sushi I've ever had. The quality and attention to detail is unmatched. We also hit Black Cloister (full at 7:30pm) and M Osteria (our first time)-who has, in my opinion, the worst wine list in this city for a supposedly upscale restaurant. Service was meh. Pizza was actually good, with good crust and great fresh tomato sauce.
