Gov. John Kasich has banned media cameras from his initial budget announcement contending it is not a "news conference." The Governor has prohibited reporters at the "announcement" from carrying anything other than pen, pads and tape recorders and mandates the recordings be used only for checking quotes, not for broadcast. Several media outlets have protested. Is this a good, or bad, start for the new administration?
Kasich Dictates Media Coverage

Bad. Obama made the same mistake in promising a more open and transparent administration and then holding even less press conferences than Bush did. From a practical standpoint, you would think Kasich would want to make sure that folks heard him correctly, unless he will be saying things that will make people angry (which he will). For someone who's mug was all over Fox News for the last 8 years, he is awfully shy about going on record now.
Restriction of the press. Sounds pretty fascist to me. Right up there with suppressing labor unions. Not that we didn't see these sorts of things happen in certain parts of Europe in the 1930s.

Whatever happened to sunshine laws? Oh, yeah, see anon's post above.
Early Warning Signs of Fascism:
1. Powerful and continuing nationalism
USA! USA! USA!
2. Disdain for human rights
Fuck gays! Fuck immigrants! etc.
3. Identification of enemies/scapegoats
GODDAMN COMMIE PINKO ATHEIST MUSLIM SOCIALIST DEMOCRATS! THEY AND THE LIBRUL ELITE UNIONISTAS AND THE QUEERS ARE THE CAUSE OF EVERYTHING THAT'S WRONG WITH AMERICA!
4. Supremacy of the military
(Points to wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the bomb bomb bomb Iran crowd)
5. Controlled mass media
Fox News, 90% of talk radio, etc. plus Kasich's latest attempt at bannination of the media.
6. Obsession with national security
PATRIOT Act, TSA, borders, focus on immigration...
7. Religion and government are intertwined
IN GOD WE TRUST AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, GTFO YOU ATHEIST COMMIE PINKO LIBRUL! (see all the blue laws on the books as well as DoMA/gay marriage bans)
8. Corporate power is protected
Duh. TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH! NO INCOME TAX ON CORPORATIONS!
9. Labor power is suppressed
SB5. Wisconsin. BUST THOSE CORRUPT OVERPAID LAZY BUMS!
10. Didsdain for intellectuals and the arts
(every single TeaPublican and conservative on this board demonstrates this!)
11. Obsession with crime and punishment
(only when it affects their enemies... if any Teapublican gets in trouble, it's a vast liberal conspiracy to drum up charges!)
12. Rampant cronyism and corruption
Just how much is Kasich paying his advisors again? More than those positions got Strickland! Kinda ironic given that we're facing a DEFICIT... but he can't possibly pay his friends LESS!
13. Fraudulent elections
Diebold.
14. Rampant sexism
All you need to do is look at some of the things out of the mouths of Palin and the other Teapublican darlings like Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin and Michelle Bachmann. Women who have basically indicated that they WANT other women to be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen making their men sammiches and fetching them beers.

This is only a Kasich problem?
Please pull your heads out of the hyper-ideological (fill in the blank) and take a look around.
The White House didn’t specify what Obama will say, if anything, when he accepts the award. But he probably won’t mention that his administration acted on fewer requests for information last year even as it was asked for more, a tally documented by the AP.
And he also probably won’t talk about his aggressive effort to prosecute federal workers who leak information to shed light on wrongdoing. Or that despite his anti-lobbyist rhetoric, his aides are meeting with lobbyists just outside the White House, allowing the administration to keep the meetings off the books from public view.
It's not "liberal" and "conservative". It's not "Democrat" and "Republican".
It's "We make the laws, you don't--so fuck you". BOTH parties. At least Kasich allowed people writing/taking notes.

"both parties"
"at least kasich"
so you're saying they're both evil, so vote Republican?
Fuck you.

I'm so hurt.
Now, why don't you go post more cut-n-paste talking points in multiple threads again, twit.
Kasich allowed reporters to take notes. Obama closed all meetings. It's laid out in the story, numbnuts. There is a difference. And both are wrong.

Yeah, can't you just feel the love? I think it's time for a group hug!
The same AC who says Repubs do nothing but name call and slander people... classic. Maybe you should make a call for civility.
Almost a good as DHR and "fight me"!
Yeah, I'd forgotten all about that. Hey, wanna meet me after school? Ha!Ha!Ha!
I've been reading AnonymousCoward for some time, and usually just about the time he begins to make sense something happens, a mental breaker fails to trip and a few circuits melt down. The rest of the world is treated to a band width temper tantrum.
While this thread is about Ohio's Gov. John Kasich and a lack of transparency, there's plenty of this government secrecy going on with both parties. Neither the Moonbats nor the Wingnuts are doing anything close to an outstanding job, especially where budgets and spending are concerned.
Meet me under the bridge. Come alone.
What a howl! Man, that was funny.
Sorry, madjack, that's about the point where I lose patience trying to spell out exactly how stupid, brainwashed, ignorant, deceived, irrational, or all of the above plus more most of the so-called self-identified "conservatives" or "Tea Party members" (Teabaggers) or Republicans are. Because I can't reach through the Internet and punch people in the face.
I mean, then we have RON PAUL who one day says something like
"Imagine this-what if there had never been a President George W. Bush, and when Bill Clinton left office he was immediately replaced with Barack Obama. Now imagine Obama had governed from 2000 to 2008 exactly as Bush did-doubling the size of government, doubling the debt, expanding federal entitlements and education, starting the Iraq war-the whole works. To make matters worse, imagine that for a portion of that time, the Democrats actually controlled all three branches of government. Would Republicans have given Obama and his party a free pass in carrying out the exact same agenda as Bush? It's hard to imagine this being the case, given the grief Bill Clinton got from Republicans, even though his big government agenda was less ambitious than Bush's. Yet, the last Republican president got very little criticism from his own party for most of his tenure. For conservatives, there was no excuse for this."
and I just about cry like Speaker Boehner with joy at how true and glorious those words are.
Then RON PAUL says
"The Defense of Marriage Act was enacted in 1996 to stop Big Government in Washington from re-defining marriage and forcing its definition on the States," Rep. Paul said last week in a statement. "Like the majority of Iowans, I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman and must be protected."
"I supported the Defense of Marriage Act, which used Congress’ constitutional authority to define what other states have to recognize under the Full Faith and Credit Clause, to ensure that no state would be forced to recognize a same sex marriage license issued in another state," he added. "I have also cosponsored the Marriage Protection Act, which would remove challenges to the Defense of Marriage Act from the jurisdiction of the federal courts."
and Northwest Ohio registers a minor earthquake as my face hits my palm at supersonic speeds, then my head thumps against my desk. Because he is ALL AGAINST FEDERAL POWER NOT WRITTEN IN THE CONSTITUTION except when it conflicts with this bullshit religion-driven social conservatism. He justifies a FEDERAL LAW DEFINING MARRIAGE to prevent the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT removing a definition of marriage which would thus open the STATES up so one of them might allow GAY MARRIAGE which under the CONSTITUTION he holds so sacrosanct would HAVE to be RECOGNIZED in ALL the other states in the union because of the FULL FAITH AND CREDIT CLAUSE not to mention 14th Amendment (equal protection) and even (Flying Spaghetti Monster help us) the Commerce Clause. In other words, his argument is so illogical that in order to believe it, one must be functioning solely on brain stem alone. And RON PAUL is about the SANEST and most rational person with an R next to their name that I can think of who is still in active politics.
