I'm not old enough to know WW1 or WW2, but from what I've learned growing up and hearing stories, and now reading the paper and online articles. Are we in WW3? War on Iraq, War in Afghanistan, now bombing Libya, we have troops in just about every country in the world. The entire middle east and surrounding countries seem to be boiling into civil wars.
World at War
Comments ... #
Nope. They don't compare. These are civil wars, not one country with ambitions of overcoming another. If you want a serious global threat worry do some research on Pakistan's nuclear capability and its ties to Al Qaeda. Instead of needing coffee you'll be taking hits off of Jack Daniels.
Worst case scenarios in the middle east/ North African turmoil?
1. All the oil fields get blown up. Uh Oh! Should have bought that Prius.
2. Khadafi unleashes his store of chemical warfare weapons on his own people. Then, we'll have to kill him and his supporters. Watching the people struggle to survive in Japan has been heart wrenching enough. I sure don't want to see Anderson Cooper reporting about mustard gas burned bodies of women and children on CNN.

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor
Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess Wait 'til their judgement day comes
The world now operates on war economies, it's the golden goose bastard child of the UN. Imagine if there where no global peace keeping force and countries handled their own business. What gives the US, France, or your Aunt Edna down the street to kill peoples of other nations over their internal strife?
So anybody upset we went to war without taking the issue to Congress? Wow I guess we are lucky we are lead by a Nobel Peace Prize winner, that must give him the ability to by pass the rules of going to war.
More war for oil...it's worked so well for us in the pasted. I'm loving the cheap gas...
In the mean time Bahrain, with the use of Saudi troops, attacks civilians and we don't care because the Saudis are "our friends".
Obama lied,people died!

Huh Buckeye? I'm no fan of doing the air strike against Libya, but I don't see Obama manufacturing intelligence to have us commit a trillion dollars and tens of thousands of ground forces to over through a one time friend...

Just like Jim Tressel right?
The concept that "Bush lied and people died" must have actually hit home with some of the R's.
"Just like Jim Tressel right?"
Big difference! When Tressel lied nobody died. What does Tressel have to do with Libya? Also, when did Libya attack the U.S.?Obama is no better than Bush!We have no business getting involved in a civil war.Who is to say that these rebels are any better than what the ruling party is in Libya? It seems that we have a double standard when it comes to attacking a nation that has not attacked us.Why does Obama get a free pass when he is involved in the internal business of another country?

Huge difference between Obama and Bush. I havn't heard any false claims of WMD. In fact Khadafi does have mustard gas. We don't have boots on the ground. We havn't taken the point. Nobody in Iraq was attacking Saddam to overthrow the government. They were pretty much minding their own business.
Tressel? Shouldn't even be mentioned in this debate. There is no relevance. That's just another college football scandal, with damage control orchestrated to keep those boys playing until the bowl game. Its all about football money for OSU. I would not be surprised if some heavy hitter alumni havnt already written checks to cover Tressel's fine.

Oh and we have multinational support and even Arabic support for this stuff in Libya, unlike the fiasco in Iraq where Bush tried to gin up support. And France and Italy and the UK have taken point, for fuck's sake. It's not like it's only or >50% the USA in there running Team America World Police with allies playing the role of our bitches.

What is the purpose of Obama's war with Libya?
“They consulted the Arab League. They consulted the United Nations. They did not consult the United States Congress,” one Democrat lawmaker said of the White House. “They’re creating wreckage, and they can’t obviate that by saying there are no boots on the ground. … There aren’t boots on the ground; there are Tomahawks in the air.”

"Oh and we have multinational support and even Arabic support for this stuff in Libya, unlike the fiasco in Iraq where Bush tried to gin up support." - Umm guess you where not around in 2001 when coalition forces where put together, you must have missed the speeches by GB, France, and Saudi Arabia.
TRM I don't understand why all the anti-war protesters are not out? They hit the ceiling when Bush went to war without Congressional Approval but it's seems to be ok for Mr. Peace Prize Winner.
If you want a serious global threat worry do some research on Pakistan's nuclear capability and its ties to Al Qaeda.
I was going to hold off until 7:00, but now...
Yeah, like DBW8906 said, where are the protesters? I guess no one in the U.S. likes Libya. Or something.
You know, I'm just wondering. We have a US President who won the peace prize without achieving anything that might make him eligible to win it. It is now 2011 and the US still has troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Git-mo is still open. The Patriot Act is still law. Now the US is destroying Libya and commercial media is supporting this action. People who howled bloody blue murder when King George II invaded Iraq are strangely silent.
I guess this is just part of the peace process.
There's a difference between a country where there's an active rebellion, after there being other active rebellions in neighboring countries, and Iraq, which was all about Chimpy McFlightsuit getting Saddam and making shit up about WMDs to do it. And we're not funding the majority of Libya either, not that we need THREE goddamn wars going on.

Everything makes sense depending on what "your" party does. Many of you should be ashamed of what you write. Saying this attack is "ok" or that attack is "ok" because it's justified.
Politicians lied? WMDs, getting out of Iraq, closing Gitmo and now into Afganistan? What haven't the american people been lied to about?
In the many years we've been in Iraq, Afganistan, and now who knows how long we'll be in Libya, what have we gained?
Are we really safer today because of our military actions then we were on Sept 12, 2001?
I think it's time we return our military home and concentrate on our borders, our people and our economic stance in the world before we branch out into yet another country with military force.
Amen Hockeyfan
"There's a difference between a country where there's an active rebellion" - Please show me in any of our documents that structure our nation (you know they are kind of important), where we have the right/authority to play a role in the order/structure of other nations? Matter of fact I can show you several founding documents the point to a small military and non-intervention policy.
You can name call "Chimpy McFlightsuit" all you want but you will back you boy no matter how much he pumps the pooch. Bush killing poor brown skinned people for no reason = EVIL MAN, Obama killing poor brown skinned people for no reason = Ok cause he is our guy.
Oh btw even Obama does believe he has the power to do what he did “The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation,” http://www.boston.com/news/politics/2008/specials/CandidateQA/ObamaQA/

Cheney and Halliburton
Got into War because Saddam tried to kill his Daddy once…
Bush lied and they all died.
Atrocities like Abu Ghraib being shown over and over again often with Bush and Rumsfeld images. "Step down Mr. Secretary of Defense, Step Down!"
Anti War protesters…
Katrina – He doesn’t care about Black folks…
Bush… dumbest President ever.
The Price of Gas…. Bush’s fault…
And the economy… I could write a book on how that was old George Bush’s fault, maybe Reagan's too...
The Towers were blown up by our own Government….
The World’s ending because of Bush…. He stole the election…
Cindy Sheehan on the news over and over again (why I never really understood – exploitative?)
(Sorry, I was remembering the good old days when we had a villain to blame everything on.
Hmmm…. Pictures of worse Army atrocities come out on Obama’s watch, (yawn)… not even front page news….
It’s just natural for gas prices to fluctuate…. Don’t think about that now….
War… well….
Man, I could go on and on but I'm too bored by it anymore.
I think I’ll read 1984 again. I always get confused George Orwell… not Orson Wells!

I'm not a fan of this whole Libya situation and as an independent who leans liberally I am very disappointed in Obama's about face regarding the president's war powers. Business as usual for the figurehead who gets to keep his finger on the trigger of two thirds of the world's military.
Apparently the Nobel Peace Prize comes with no continuing obligations.
I will be reconsidering my 2012 vote unless the GOP picks a populist bible thumper.
That plane that crashed cost the taxpayer more than 5 times what NPR was asking for (5 million). That's the real irony here.

Of course the GOP is gonna pick a populist Bible thumper. Whether it'll be openly or the top or bottom of the ticket is the question. Hell, Donald Trump is already talking, and he's a man who's run into bankruptcy twice, which makes him Chimpy McFlightsuit-grade material when it comes to businesses - and look what Chimpy did to the $6 TRILLION estimated budget surplus Clinton handed him in 2001. Tax cut, war, PATRIOT Act spending, another war, tax cut, Medicare Part D, bailouts. SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK WE WERE GONNA BE $6 TRILLION PAID TOWARDS THE DEBT 10 YEARS AFTER 2001!

Look AC, if you want to criticize King George II all you really need to do is research a few facts and post them. The truth is bad enough, resorting to name calling only makes you look foolish and a little touched in the head. Get a grip. Use both hands.
King George II was a lot of things, but being an incompetent pilot was not among them. He was cleared to pilot a multimillion dollar high performance aircraft before and during his presidency, and the US armed forces do not trust incompetent people to fly their aircraft.
As DBW8906 pointed out, King George II had a Congress in which the majority were died in the wool Moonbats. They gave the King a blank check and never said a fucking word when he kept moving the decimal point to the right. Only a few Congress members on both sides had the presence of mind to speak out against the patriot act, which gave law enforcement their wish list for the next millennium.
Now we have The Anointed One who promised to restore our constitutional rights, but who has failed to do so. Git-Mo is still open; The Anointed One promised to close it and it is within his authority to do so.
Now we have LibyaGate. The ground pounders are still aboard ship. Missiles are in the air. The Anointed One could have kept us out of Libya, instead the US is involved, and with the amount of power we bring to the war we are way out front.
That is typical of The Anointed One, promise something and forget all about it, then do something else to injure the world.
As far as comparing this to WW-2, there is no comparison. Go read your history or ask HistoryMike for a quick run down.
EPIC LIES FROM MADJACK AND DBW! I have caught you motherfuckers lying your asses off to make Fox News proud!
"Right because 6 years of democratic control in Congress while GBW was in office" -- dbw
"As DBW8906 pointed out, King George II had a Congress in which the majority were died in the wool Moonbats. They gave the King a blank check and never said a fucking word when he kept moving the decimal point to the right. " -- madjack

108th Congress, 2003–2005, Senate: 49 Dems, 51 Republicans, REPUBLICAN CONTROL OF SENATE. House: 205 Dems, 229 Republicans, REPUBLICAN CONTROL OF HOUSE
109th Congress, 2005–2007, Senate: 44 Dems 44 Republicans, REPUBLICAN CONTROL OF SENATE. House: 202 Dems, 231 Republicans, REPUBLICAN CONTROL OF HOUSE

Checking US Politics - About.com the average reader discovers that:
There were 50 Ds and 50 Rs until May 24, 2001, when Sen. James Jeffords (R-VT) switched to Independent status, effective June 6, 2001; he announced that he would caucus with the Democrats, giving the Democrats a one-seat advantage.
Ds being Moonbats and Rs being Wingnuts.
So I would suppose then that all those Democrats really did try and put a stop to the excessive spending and Draconian legislation that followed the 9/11 terrorist attack, but they were all shouted down, or forced to comply, or something.
Moving right along to the present, why hasn't The Anointed One closed down Git-Mo or restored our civil rights? Like he promised he'd do when he was busy campaigning for the presidential election.
You know AC, you're behaving badly. It's completely pointless to criticize King George II as the damage is done and the King is dead (long live the king!). Instead of listing a few things The Anointed One has accomplished, you resort to cursing and name calling the opposition.
Grow up.
Look the Tea Party has failed us, they where going to cut 100 bill, then it went down to 60 bill, and I'm sure it will sonn be about 3.50, some pocket lint and a couple of buttons.
None of that gives our President the ability to start illegal wars and strip us of our rights by keeping the Patriot Act up and going.

Only proves dbw is a fucking moron, because anyone with a working BRAIN STEM let alone the rest of the brain knew the "Tea Party" was nothing more than a pile of Republicans who hate homosexuals at the same time they're sucking Kochs. Yeah, those of us who aren't retards, oops, sorry, "retard" is a bad word, I mean "Palin-Americans" knew that they'd promise everything under the sun in order to be elected and then turn around and sell out to every special interest group and make the cuts that suit the special interests over ACTUALLY FIXING THE DEFICIT. Just like that Koch-sucker Kasich is gonna do with privatizing state liquor. Hey, yeah, sell it off for a ONE-TIME payment of $1.5 BILLION to HIMSELF (as CEO of the private entity) and keep the profits for the next 30 years. The problem is that state liquor nets $220 million a year for the state, so the state LOSES MONEY AFTER 6 YEARS, which means since Kasich will be out before then, Kasich plans on shafting the state for his own benefit AND leaves $220 million holes in the budget for the the rest of eternity as the $1.5 billion will just cover the hole for this year. Why the fuck are you Teapublicans so bad at math? Must be that Bible learning where pi equals exactly 3 or something.
