Lady Rockets in WNIT chanpionship - play USC in finals Saturday

My husband & son went to watch UT women's basketball in the WNIT semi-finals tonight. They had a fantastic time - reported that the crowd was standing room only and very enthusiastic.

The championship game is on Saturday vs. USC at 3 pm. WNIT game locations are awarded based on average attendance. It says a lot about the community's support for the Lady Rockets that all of their games have been scheduled in Toledo.

(Doesn't hurt that there has been an economic boost to some businesses by bringing in these out of town teams too.)

"WNIT game locations are awarded based on average attendance."

Arenas put in silent bids, they basically paid for home court advantage. Which is well worth it in the end.

Great job Coach and players. One more to go.

Ah, justphillips, I thought my husband said attendance was a factor. (Though perhaps its part of the bid component - if you can sell a lot of tickets, it might improve your overall bid.)

I read somewhere that UT was leading the WNIT in average attendance at the games - good to see the community & student body get behind the team!

My understanding is it's based on attendance because I think NIT gets a cut of the draw based on that. Fred posted the article from Charlotte (sp?) paper this morning that quoted their coach as saying - they were too nervous to play basketball and that they had never played in front of so many people and going that crazy.

Yeah, you see the attendance from the other games, and they're typically in the 300-500 person range. Then there's UT, and we topped 7,000 last night. It's great to see how much support the city has been giving the girls!

It took my husband 2 hours this morning to get through on the ticket office phone line to buy tickets for Saturday's game!

I'd say its safe to assume there will be another sell out for this weekend.

mom2.

Attendance is a factor to help determine close bids ect. UT's first 4 bids for the WNIT was around $12,000-$15,000 a game to host. I haven't seen the bids for the last two games they hosted yet though.

I also have my tickets for the game. Can't wait!!!

P.S. The game sold out in less than 6 hours.

Does anyone know if the game is on TV? I can't find what channel it would be on.

It's on TV, on CBS College Sports. If you're a Buckeye customer, you're out of luck. Time-Warner, Dish, DirecTV and AT&T U-Verse all carry it. You can find out the exact channel at www.cbscollegesports.com.

I thought so...I have Buckeye, I was hoping I was wrong. Bah!

Me too. That's why I'm heading out to my dad's in Time-Warner land.

What ?! Buckeye not offering the latest channels or equivalent to area competitors ? This is shocking, must see breaking news

I'm hours away from Toledo. I got updates from refreshing the game's Web page at Yahoo! Sports and watching the search results for the #WNIT Twitter hashtag. Something better was probably available.

This Twitpic user uploaded a couple photos. One is from earlier in today's game, showing the nice crowd, and the other photo is after the game ended, although the photo is a bit blurry.

We're just leaving now - the kids lingered to get autographs after the game.

Man, that was exciting. The crowd was so energized. Awesome.

I graduated from a Big 10 school & have been to my fair share of big, exciting games, and the atmosphere at Savage today rivaled any college game I've ever attended. Toledo should be proud of the way the community rallied for the team!

Aw nuts.

Wisconson eyes UT coach Cullop

Getting to the Big 10 would be a huge step up--and I know now is the coaching silly season with many coaches getting fired & hired. Hope she does what is best for her and her family...and maybe stays here :)

After last night's horrible (clank, clank, CHARGE, FOUL!, clank) men's game, I'm actually looking forward to the women's NCAA championship game tonight. Go Notre Dame!

Even drinking more couldn't take the stink off Butler & UConn. 26% shooting--eeeech.
