****THIS FRIDAY (April 22) AT THE WESTFIELD MALL @ The Food Court: A Thousand Cranes: Japan Tsunami Relief Fundraiser from 1pm to 6pm. Please come out in support.
What: A fundraiser to raise money and awareness about the continuing disaster in Japan that also showcases Japanese culture. The participants will be comprised of various Japan related organizations in Northwestern Ohio and Michigan as well as volunteers from both areas. All donations will go to charities that are raising funds for Japan, such as the Red Cross(others TBA).
Who: University of Toledo Japanese Student Organization(JSA), Japanese Association of Toledo, citizen groups
Proposed Activities:
・A Thousand Cranes-Origami Crane Folding for charity($1/each)
・Japanese Tea Ceremony
・Japanese Calligraphy Painting
・Martial Arts Demonstration Aikido/Ninjutsu/Karate
・Taiko Performance
・Koto Performance
・Soranbushi Dance Performance
・T-shirt Making
・Facepainting
・Kimono Trying on/Picture Taking
・Children's Game
* Raffle with many unique prizes!

Not a biggie, Ill be there. I'm helping with the kimono photo booth and have donated a kimono for raffle. The musical performances are pretty cool - and top quality.
It's a cold, rainy nasty Friday...why not head to the mall and bring the kids to this?
I generally avoid malls and shopping centers like the plague, but I haven't been to Franklin Park Mall in quite a long time, so maybe I can stomach it for this.
The mall was packed today! We took the kids to see Hop. I was going to stop by, but my husband was in a big hurry to get out of the mall. (Which is why the kids & I don't normally bring him to the movies - he rushes us too much.)
I did see the event from a distance, looked like there was a nice turnout.
It was nice. The origami was nice as was the chop stick race. Managed to get 19 in. The pottery was also beautiful and great prices for locally made art with a Japanese style. Everyone was nice and extremely grateful. Really hope they raise a lot in the process.
Was also a pleasure getting to meet another tt'er in real life.
Things went great today - Ill have photos. This is ALSO being done tomorrow from 1pm - 6pm!

I didn't see the event but HOLY COW was the mall jammed with people today. It was good to see so many people out there. I hope all the shops did well.
I should have said "I hope you guys and gals did well too OhioKimono". I thought it when i posted but for some reason it didn't come out. Ha!
I really enjoyed the enthusiasm when I approached the ticket counter and was willing to drop $20 for the 7 ticket special. The gentleman seemed very happy, and while I enjoyed that it made me sad because it must mean it was rare.
Anyway received my call and ended up winning 3 ticket drawings. Would almost rather donate them back for future Japan-centric fundraisers, but the japan-a-radio CD sounds too good to pass up on ;)
OhioKimono: if you know of any groups that need volunteers or anything dealing with Japanese culture I'd be gladly willing to help out.
INeedCoffee - that's cool man. Just watch for events I post here and remind me your free as a volunteer. I dont often need them, but you are always welcome to come out and join us :)
