Unions... They Screw everything up in TOledo.... It's all about them... we revolve around them... I have one word.. okay two... F&$K them. Let's better the region folks, it's not that hard... Why do they get to make ALL ALL ALL ALL ALL the fricken decisions?!?!
I'm not anti Union, I just want fair, good ecomomic development.
Article in today's blade about City income taxes up- Unions bash it.. WTF? I think that's good.. means more people are working...
Are these well educated people gosh darn stupid!?!?!
Had to vent...
I'm not sure quite what you're getting at? I whink that, in general, they are upset that the workers are still the ones paying all the taxes! I worked union for about 8 years. I don't really think they are too necessary thrse days. But, the unions are vastley responsible for the state of everyones wages. They are responsible for minimum wage increases. If you get C.O.L.A., they are probably responsible.
I heard once about public unions verse private unions. Public services having a union, with no competition, is rediculous!
link to Toledo Blade article?
As far as the city unions go the question I have is not so much what the union tied to get out of the city, (like 13 paid holidays and being able to accumulate sickdays as well as retiring after a certain age with full benefits)but who was it that agreed to all these perks? Can anyone name these great negotiators of the public's money? Who gave away the bank?
GREAT post barfly, and an issue I've never seen raised before.
Can anyone name these great negotiators of the public's money?
Answer: every spineless politician who wanted the votes of nearly every union member in the next election. Promise the world, get the votes. Tell the union no and face non-stop bullshit forever.
You want a guardian of "public money"? Elect more people like this guy who are unafraid.
Wow, oldhometown. I've seen clips of Chris Christie before. I gain respect every time I hear him speak. You get so use to politicians speaking for five to ten minutes and saying absolutely nothing that it is refreshing to hear facts, figures and honesty with no apologies.
Who negotiates these contracts? The mayor? Council members?
How far back does it go? David boston, Donna Owens? Name some names.
Fat guys who yell at teachers, and then lie about unions benefits don't necessarily make effective "guardians of public money".
Here's an idea, since its tax payer money lets put any raises or benefit increase up for a vote by the people that have to pay it.
