Are there any farms locally that sell fresh eggs, especially brown eggs? It's finally starting to get nice out (though rainy) so anxious for the fresh produce from Bench's and Erie Street Market, but never found an egg supplier.
Farm Fresh Eggs Locally

I see signs around this part of town, there's one at Lime City and Five Points, that ranch with the quarry in the front of it. I dunno, can small places be trusted to have clean product?
There's a little shed-like building at the Erie Street Market that sells local chicken -- I'm sure they would have eggs too?

nana,
They don't have to clean them as much when they come from small places because they never get too dirty in the first place. Remember that massive egg recall last year? Yep, it was the big boys.

Pretty sure that's the little shack that's open year-round.

yeah, I know, brainy, that sucked coz we eat eggs everyday. guess ya just got to trust or grow your own and I'm not ready to take on that job yet. :)
Churchill's on Central has eggs from a small farm on Corduroy Road. The poultry house at the ESMarket has eggs, but they would not tell me anything about the supplier. I don't think they're buying from smaller vendors. Several vendors at the market have brown (and green and blue) eggs. Since they have to keep them in coolers, you don't always see their eggs on top of the table, so it pays to ask. Some sell out early in the day, but they will hold some for you if ask.
just an fyi... brown eggs are in no way healthier or more natural than white.
Churchill's and Sauders have them as well as the local farmer's markets. I personally get mine right at the farm from the farmer himself.
He is in Grand Rapids just off Anthony Wayne Trail. Great farmer with even better quality products.

The Toledo Natural Food Co-op (Phoenix Food Co-op) 1447 W. Sylvania Ave. They have farm eggs, butter and milk-- you do not need to be a member to shop there.
Thank you all for this amazing list :) +1 more love for Toledo

Susan...Do you just go to his house? Do you have to make an appt? I've driven by but have never seen any signs or anything so I didn't want to just pull in. How much are the eggs? Thanks.

You can either call and make an appointment (He'll give you a tour if you want) or order online and he'll call you when the order is ready.
I don't recall the price off the top of my head as I usually have other items in my order, chicken stock, pork chops, steak... it is all good. I think there is a price list on his site though.

This place looks pretty cool. I'm going there this month and bringing a store-bought egg with me as he recommends to see the differences.
