For those who think the Huntington Center acts are

Young Jeezy has scheduled a show.

http://m2.toledoblade.com/Music-Theater-Dance/2011/06/15/Rapper-Young-Jeezy-coming-to-Huntington-Center.html

Not really my thing, but its certainly a change of pace for the Huntington Center.

Dang it...my title was truncated.

It was supposed to say: For those who think the Huntington Center acts are "too old" or "too country"

Thats a big venue for an act like that. Kind of surprised. Maybe I am out of touch. Sheryl Crow plays Centennial and Young Jeezy plays Huntington???

disclaimer I am happy any act comes to Toledo and it is always a good thing!

If Carty was still mayor, would he shut the H.C. down like he did to Gatorz when they booked the Yin Yang Twins a few years ago??

I'm not really sure. To be completely honest, I don't know how currently relevant Jeezy is in the rap/hip-hop world.

I actually do like some rap and hip-hop, but I'm not particularly familiar with Jeezy.

As for Sheryl Crow, I dunno. Obviously she was a bigger star several years ago, but I'd still think that she might be "bigger" than Centennial Terrace.

Not that I'm complaining, because I can hear the music at Centennial from my home. I've already seen Sheryl Crow live once, so I probably won't buy a ticket. But I'll definitely still listen. :)

We got awesome tickets and it is my first concert at that venue. I hear its a great one.

They did some major rennovations a couple of years ago, and the reviews have been very positive.

I think they've been trying to pull some bigger name acts post-rennovation, which could explain why they're getting Sheryl Crow.

And who doesn't love to see an outdoor concert on a beautiful day? Same reason I like the Zoo as a concert venue!

Make sure to post a review after the concert...will be curious to hear your thoughts. (Both on the show and the venue.)

I saw Sheryl Crow during the MLB All-Star Game weekend a couple years ago in St. Louis--outdoors under the Arch on the Mississippi riverfront. She puts on a good show...she was amped up for that show because she's from Kennett, Missouri (about 2 hrs south of STL), so she had a "hometown" crowd.

Does a wicked cover of "Sweet Child O' Mine"...better live than the recorded version she put out. She's pretty much in the "greatest hits" stage of her career now, but she does have a lot of very familiar songs that everybody seems to love...

Thats funny because I saw her once years ago as part of an all day festival and Sweet Child O' Mine was the only song I remembered. Kinda wasted though. :)

It's nice to have Huntington Center close because nothing is worse than having a long drive home after a long night.

Sometimes if it's someone that I wanna see I don't mind driving. For example, my brother-in-law and I are going to see Kid Rock and Sammy Hagar at Comerica Park, and Kenny Chesney at Ford Field.

Well, Jeezy IS a southern boy so on a technicality, based on the type of acts that have been in the HC, it sort of falls in line I reckon. The HC too big for Jeezy? Perhaps. Maybe the promoters are hoping to get some followers from Detroit to come and see the show.

You really want the Jeezy fans from Detroit coming down?

I am feeling way out of touch, who the heck is Jeezy. Time for a google search or itunes :(

I'm with ya Hoops. I have no clue who (or what) Jeezy is. Something tells me I'm better off not knowing.

dbw: I won't be going and quite frankly, I don't follow or listen to Jeezy compared to other more 'genuine' hip hop. He's a bit too bubble gum for my ears. Fans coming from Detroit, well, that could be for another topic, I guess we'll find out on the news, huh?

I'm thinking 2 Live Crew and Wu-Tang Clan would be perfect for Centennial Terrace.

2 Live Crew (at least Luke) played the Bijou a lot before they tore it down.

Luthor (Luke) Campbell...now known as "Uncle Luke" to 'da kids...was running for mayor of Miami, Florida recently. He finished in 4th place!

I was so hoping he would win, just for the entertainment value.

I bought this CD back in the day just because I couldn't stand Al And Tippy Gore screaming we have to stop them cause "ITS FOR THE KIDS!" Well that and I like all the booty in the videos :)

Would be great to get Arcade Fire in there. I've seen them in Chicago twice, best live set I've ever seen.

I'm saddened Clutch, the greatest rock band of the past two centuries, no longer stops in Toledo.

Luke Campbell's group, 2 Live Crew, actually are pretty credited. They set a sustaining precedent for their use of Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman. I think the Supreme Court of the US case was Campbell v. Acuff Rose (might have misspelled it). So, despite their ridiculous music, they made a difference.

I saw Clutch last year at Headliners, and the year before that too. Please tell me that you're wrong about this JJFad..

I just looked at their concert page, and they're playing everywhere BUT Toledo. Columbus, Cincinnati, flint, Cleveland... no Toledo. Very sad.

I've been to several Clutch shows in the T Town area the last couple of years, they have been a staple of the SE Michigan/NW Ohio trail for a longtime. All the shows I've been too at Headliners have been packed out, so I'm sure it's not a ticket sales thing. It would be a shame if there where no more Elephant Riders rolling through town.

Although I have heard from a couple of local acts that the people who now run Headliners are real DB's.

at mom2s request:

Sheryl Crow was great. Her voice is amazing and she seems so at ease singing anything. Did quite a few songs I was unfamiliar with, but thats expected I suppose. The venuse is really nice, but they need to amp up the concessions. literally waited 20 minutes at one point with only maybe 15 people ahead of me. i also didnt care for the fact that they let all the general admission people camp outside where reserved seats are. not that they dont deserve the view, but they made it very difficult to go in and out. we saw a quasi fight between two middle aged couples, thats always fun. definetely will go back if anyone else comes to town i am intersted in. they also have it set up so its easy in and out with the cars which is nice. were you able to hear her at all? btw, the woman is fit beyond words!
