Harry Potter Mania in Toledo

Every theatre in Toledo Metro had every room that was showing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2, sold out tonight.
The above pictures was at Fallen Timbers around 11:15 or so. Lines were wrapped about both sides of the building, and what the picture doesn't show you is all of the people in the rooms and hallways in both directions.

Managed chaos and the staff there were pretty good about it, with management even coming in prior to the movie to make an announcement.

As a fan it was bitter sweet. Wondering if any other TT'ers saw it, plan to, and your thoughts.
Definitely and end to an era.

The Flying Joe at Levis also had a HP party from 9-11:30 with Butter Beer and various concoctions.

I'm going tonight at Franklin Park. Hopefully things won't be too outrageous, as I only plan to get there an hour early. I'm unwilling to camp out for hours on end, but I did preorder tickets.

I have never seen any of the movies or read the books. I compare it to the Star Wars phenomena. You either love it or hate it, nothing in between

Going next week. Waited 10 years for this whole movie series to finish, what's a few more days...

Yeah -- I think I'm going to give it a few days too.

Hoops - It's everyone's right to make that decision, but I'd at least hope people would have something to base it on. As an admitted Star Wars nerd, few things irk me more than people who make fun of it while having never actually seen any of them. It's the same thing with food. People so often talk about how disgusting certain exotic foods are without ever having tried them. So, long story short, I hope anyone who decided to be a hater of something has at least experienced it.

I'm confused. You've never read one of the books OR seen any of the movies, but you "hate" it? What is the basis of the hate? Shouldn't you just be, by definition, neutral since you haven't experienced them first hand? Where does the "hate" come from? Seems a bit ignorant to me to form a judgement about something you know nothing about.

I've never seen any of the Star Wars movies. Can't say that I "hate" them by any means, just have never had the urge to watch any of them.

I've never seen any of the Harry Potter movies either. However, I'd watch the movies with my kids if/when they show an interest in seeing one. So far they haven't been all that interested - maybe they are too young for Harry Potter (2nd & 3rd grade)?

Mom2, My son who is in Kindergarten and loves the HP movies but I assume that is because his older brother and sister are into them.

I was in the boat that I hated them but didn't have anything to base that on because I had never seen the movies or read the books. I then sat down one weekend and watched them with my son and daughter and actually enjoy them now.

We have all of the movies up until Deathly Hollows part 1. I just don't get into all the dressing up and such and don't have to see the movie as soon as it comes out. I wait until it comes out on DVD and just buy it.

That could be.

As far as I know, none of my kids friends are really into Harry Potter either. (I'm sure some of them may have seen a movie, but I don't think any of them are really "into" the craze.) That's probably part of the reason why my kids haven't asked to watch any of the movies so far.

I don't think my kids would dislike the movies -it just hasn't been anything they have specifically expressed an interest in seeing so far.

That's nothing. You should have seen opening night at the Westwood for Hairy Pooter.

Mom2, my Joey and I are working our way through the books (he's starting 4th grade next month). I'm just sorry I didn't start the books with him sooner -- he's eating them up!

Our rule is that you can't watch the movie until you've read the book. He says that's ok, he likes the books better!

Annie, my son is on a kick right now where he doesn't want to read fiction. We make a weekly trip to the library, but he heads for the kids non-fiction section. It was so funny - when I tried to suggest some fiction selections, he said "why should I read about something that isn't real?"

I didn't have a very good comeback for that. But, I figure at least he's reading something so I won't get on his case too much for now.

I might try to suggest the Harry Potter books though - perhaps with all of the publicity about the movie, it would help pique his interest?

He's going into 2nd grade, which means that he'll have several book reports to do this year. Hopefully he'll be out of this non-fiction only phase by then...

(My daughter, on the other hand, will read as many books as she can get her hands on.)

mom2--I think your son and I could be long lost cousins. I have always gravitated towards biographies and non-fiction ever since I was a kid. Yeah, I liked a lot of fiction stuff I read through school, but I always wanted to know more about my favorite sports stars, teams, figures in history, etc.

I would suggest that you see if you can find a used World Book encyclopedia set (that won't cost an arm and a leg) for your son. It doesn't have to be the newest most up-to-date set in the world...just something that gives him a lot of non-fiction reading to nose through at his pace. World Book--to me--had the best mix of a lot of information AND a lot of pictures (important if you don't exactly know what you're reading about--you can look at a picture!).

As I said--it doesn't have to be brand new. My grandmother had a set from the 1960's in her house and I still found them fascinating in the 1980's.

I second the encyclopedia idea. We have a 1970s set right now and enjoy them on a weekly basis. When I was in high school, I read all the way through our family's old 1950 set during a long Chicago winter. The old artwork associated with "Atomic Sciences" is worth a good laugh. The whole thing is very entertaining.

I'm not as big of a fan as my wife, but I thought the movie was very good. It is a good ending to the series.

I hope these kids can find decent roles at some point in there future. They seem to be pretty good actors/actresses.

CB I'm in the same boat, but I was a sucker for the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy series of books when I was a lad.

My 15-yr old daughter and my wife just left to go see the movie. My daughter grew up on the books and movies, and while she doesn't dress up and take them too seriously, she did express before she left that she feels as part of her childhood is now ending. She started reading the books when she was 5, so the end of the series is a pretty big deal for her.
