Toledo-centric gifts/favors

Okay Talkers, I need your help.
I need to give a gift to a bunch of people and I'd like to make it Toledo or Ohio-centric. Think small, like a wedding favor type of thing. Any ideas? I will need around 100, and they should be easy to transport as I will have to schlep them on an airplane as will the recipients. Food items are okay.

Almondina cookies? Small items from the Libbey Glass Outlet? Bouquets of Dum-Dum pops? Those travel-size Etch-A-Sketch? Something from the Mud Hens? There are tons of fun things.

Hit up the main Tony Packo's and Mud Hen's store downtown. They have stuff thats great for Toledo Themed gifts. I used them before as business gifts for a conference and they went over great.

I was going to mention Packos, but I find people can really be either for or against that place anymore.

Too bad the muffletta from Pams Corner cant be freeze dried, lol.

Packo's is nice for outsiders who dont know the local drama.

small jar of Tony Packo's pickles or sauce. The sauce is a lot smaller so would be easier the transport in quantities of 100.

you can get a selection of postcards from the Art Museum or the Lithopane Museum and put them in thin picture frames....

You can also try Taste of Toledo - they carry Toledo and Ohio made items.

Taste of Toledo on Angola in Holland has a huge assortment of food goodies from around the area. They have baskets on their site but you can get things ala carte in the store.

For the cultures.....I personally and highly recommend Elain'e Tea Shop for hand blended loose leaf teas by one of the few only existing formal Tea Masters in all of North America. You can get entire bags of loose leaf tea for well under $10 - she is very helpful and the tea is the best out there.

Glass City Cafe has some Toledo"y" type stuff for sale on their walls. Not sure of the price, but some of it looks pretty cool.

Almost forgot to mention the North end and Central city area residents probably have some guns for sale. Guns and shootings are pretty Toledo as of late.

I forgot about Elaine's. Her teas are the best in the area imo.

People who buy tea from that place in the mall are getting ripped off and inferior tea imo

No one but me upso ..and only to frown upon its over priced antics.

You're right about the mall tea store. Rent in the mall is higher than anywhere else and prices reflect that.

I might opt for a quarter pound of gravel in a brown paper bag. Kind of sums up the ambiance of the city.

Buckeyes are reminiscent of Ohio, so I suppose you could collect 100 buckeyes and pass them along as a sort of party favor.

I think Maggie had a good idea about the postcards, to which I will add that if you're artistically talented you might consider getting out your digital camera, taking 100 different shots around the city, adding a caption and/or an explanation of what the shot was about, printing (5×7?) and framing them. You can get some inexpensive frames for the photos. I suppose this would be a lot of work, but some people really appreciate the personal touch this would provide.

If you have trouble with this, I've noted that several people on ToledoTalk are talented and might be persuaded to help with the photography.

We've given Garlic Expressions and Thatcher's Organic Artisan Liquors to rave reviews. This probably doesn't fit your gift needs, but our favorite "Ohio" gift to give is a package from Jeni's Ice Cream in Columbus.

You could take something like the Garlic Expressions (there is also a local peppers pickler that is incredible, but I can't remember the name right now) and wrap Silly Bands around it.

If you're looking for postcards, I'd try the antiques mall downtown. It has a ton of old Toledo postcards for cheap.

Libbey Glass downtown at the Erie Street Market has Toledo-themed shot glasses and coffee mugs. How about a buckeye inside each shot glass and some Almondina inside each coffee cup?

Also, yea if you want photos for postcards and all that I would be happy to help with my own photos. I also own Adobe Photoshop and could do text and other graphic work to produce print quality post cards.
