You can't make this stuff up. Who are these morons?

http://www.thetruthtoledo.com/story/2011/072011/uptown.htm

1.5M state grant to put more perfume on yet another downtown pig.

The Uptown Association claims the project will create green space and attract business investments to the neighborhood.

Of course the article failed to mention the area also borders the Cherry Street Mission soup kitchen.

Newsflash: That area of downtown already has plenty of "green space" via abandoned tall grass/weed fields and gov't money wasn't required to establish it.

I work in that area, so it will be interesting to see what comes of it.

Not that I necessarily advocate spending public money on a project like that, but if it comes about (whether I agree with the use of public money or not) I would be likely to patronize the businesses that located there.

As painful as it is to post this, with all the money Kasich has cut from education, a lot of laid off teachers could still have jobs in place of this proposed 1.5M proposed skid row park.

I'm not for public spending, lots of projects are a real hard sell for me. But we got plenty of money to bomb brownskins, how can I say "no" to a park?

I noticed on the drawing they showed where the dumpster will be located.I can see it now. There will be dumpster diving and also a place for the homeless and inner city kids to shower or cool off at the fountain during our hot summer days.

How about a gun range, so that all the local cowboys can sharpen their skillz. Gun play seems to be the primary past time recently.

I hope it will be well lit, patrolled by security, and kept clean and manicured. Other than public safety and poor schools, I have always said that the other impediment to downtown revitalization through enticing young professionals to move downtown, was the lack of a safe clear grocery, and no place to walk the dog. 20th and Madison is not downtown per se, but who knows.

Isn't the red cross building a park at their old building site as well? Make it a skate park, with incentives for good juvenile behavior. Call Rob Dyrdek.

What really bothers me is I keep seeing money pouring into social related programs, green programs and public service programs. I'm not anti handicapped or anti elderly but I see TARPS buses flying around the city, empty Tarta buses and now you see more wasteful spending in the link above. The Big Business of the Less Fortunate seems to be booming and dare anyone speak out against these programs and seem heartless. We're witnessing an attempt to erase success, privatization and entrepeneural aspirations.

Absolutely disgusting!
