August 2011 Festivities

This has been a good summer and August looks even more fun. Here is a run down of what I've seen and hopefully others can chime in with more details or comments.

August 2nd is the Wood County Fair
August 6th 4pm-10pm Oakshade Grove "Kornfest"
August 5-7 is the Smoke on the Water "Rib Festival"
August 12-13 is the Irish Festival
August 13th is the Sylvania Super Kids marathon in Oleander Park
August 14th is the Sylvania Triathlon/Duathlon also at Oleander Park
August 20 is the Maumee Summer Fair
August 26-27 is the German American Festival Yay!

That's just from the top of my head there are probably more. I'll be volunteering for both Sylvania events, and can't wait for GAF :) stomach is already grumbling for some kraut and brats.

Has anyone here been to the Irish Festival before? Heard about it a couple years ago, then thought it died out so was excited when I saw signs for it in Oregon.

It's been kind of off and on over the years. A few years ago, the headliner band was Gaelic Storm - one of THE Irish themed bands to be heard.

I missed seeing them when they were here but recently saw them at The Ark in Ann Arbor. They made a few snide remarks about Toledo so I'm guessing it had something to do with when they were here since they haven't returned.

The rest of the audience seemed to know the joke but we had (and still don't) no clue what it was about.

The Irish Festival was originally held at International Park.

Drove past Oak Shade grove on my way to Maumee Bay and see they are having a "Kornfest" this Saturday 8/6/11 from 4-10pm. Anyone been there? Almost looks like a mini-GAF.

Found this via google:

Anyone else go to GAF this weekend? Just came back from going all 3 days was a lot of fun. Sooo full of brats and kraut :)

Didn't hear any stats but Fri and Sat were shoulder to should pretty much throughout the entire place. Today was kind of a ghost town though.

We were also there all three days and loved every minute of it! Saturday was unbelievable! I have never seen so many people there at one time. The lines for beer and food were mind boggling - not complaining at all - so very glad to see the folks come out and support the area's best festival.
I'd love to see some stats on this year's fest when they are compiled. There had to be enough beer consumed to float a battleship. Of course, I contributed my fair share to that....
Already looking forward to next year.

We where there Saturday. Got there early (5:30) and by the time we left at at almost 8 it was packed! Had a few Lebkuchenherz, kraut balls, potato pancakes, and we really wanted some food from the Swiss Essen Haus but the line was stupid long. Talked to a lot of people who where pretty disappointed in the lines.

Those German flag shots where awful yummy!

Saturday was extremely crowded. We were able to walk over, avoiding the traffic. A special shout-out to the young lady working the beer tent by first aid, who only charged me 4 tickets for each pitcher of beer. My group will forever be grateful.
