Greg Fish and Toledo Traditions of Golf

I have been holding back posting on several encounters with Mr. Fish this year but a visit to Detwiler changed my discipline.
1) I heard from a good source that Mr. Fish is behind on his payments to the city by over three months. (I would love to verify this if someone knows how I can go about doing it). I know on Thursday around noon there were a dozen cars at Detwiler tops. It was a nice day too! I was told his contract was for 5 years – but I can’t believe the administration would sign a contract for that long to someone who was so far behind in taxes.
2) Service is LOUSY! Played at Ottawa Park (My son needed to play on the course before tryouts) and the starter was letting people start ahead of us even though they hadn’t booked a tee time. We teed off 20 minutes late – then play took close to 6 hours. Parts of the course were run down, ball washers must be a thing of the past (one crumbled in my hand), my son wanted golf balls (no way – very over priced), and employees had attitude.
3) Dropped my son (15 years old) off with his friend at South Toledo because Heatherdowns, which is less money and a waaaaayyyyyy better course, had an outing and was booked. The boys, who were walking, were on 14 when a bad storm was coming in. I drove over and asked Mr. Fish if I could use a cart to go get the boys off the course. You would of thought I was robbing him of all his wealth. It took him at least 3 minutes to respond. In fact, I thought he didn’t hear me and I was trying in my head to reformulate the question when he said and I quote, “Well…I don’t need the liability should something happen. You got 5 minutes”, and handed me the key. Very warm. Hugs and kisses Greg.
I would love to know how the city is doing on the deal. Another source said he was close to the Bell administration. Anyone know the scoop on that?

Molson - I cannot corroborate your rumors about the taxes and how close Mr. Fish is to the Bell Administration. I will make my own observations which are pretty much just like yours. I used to play Detwiler as a kid and it was always in great shape. I have played it the past few years and it has fallen severely down hill. I played Ottawa Park back in June and it was in OK shape, about what I expected. They are notorious for delays and long rounds out there so it's best to get out there early on weekends. As for South Toledo vs Heatherdowns, I am in a league at Heatherdowns and must say this year is the best it's been in quite a few. I don't necessarily like the layout, but the beer is cold, cart girls are good lookin' and always a good time.

One more rumor to throw onto the fire - I heard the city had a better deal with another company to manage Ottawa and Detwiler but wouldn't touch Collins Park with a 10 foot pole. The city rejected it even though it probably would've meant better upkeep of those two courses. I would much rather have had Ottawa and Detwiler in better shape then let Mr. Fish run them all into the ground...

There was some discussion about Fish on an earlier thread about Fish owing back taxes and the fact the city was considering a contract with him.

Looking at the older thread, seems like zgirl knew what she was talking about when it came to Greg Fish. I'm guessing he has political connections. As usual, corruption reigns.
