How many cops does it take?

Ok as near as I can tell there was a fight at El Camino, and the police responded, along with 2 Toledo fire trucks, (some one was injured and taken to the hospital). The police were questioning the mother of the suspect when she asked the cop where his car was, the cop realized that the suspect and the car was missing. Switch to my neighborhood which is a double dead end street where the suspect ditched the police car and proceeded to run chased by a neighbor and his son. Another person from one street over chased after him as well and took him down in a field. A police car also was in chase in the field, and helped keep the suspect down. over the next 15-30 minutes there were a total of 12 police cars, one paddy wagon, and an undercover police car, all for one drunk dude who stole a car and was already on the ground. Now mind you he wasn't cooperating but two cops should have been able to handle it.
The police were all very polite and professional and the one who's car was stolen took my wife's ribbing very well. But over all it was an incredible waste of manpower, especially since the majority of the police mostly stood nearby where the suspect was, and weren't really needed. So if you ever wondered how many cops does it take to deal with one drunk individual, especially one dumb enough to steal a cop car, the answer is 14.

i cant believe they didn't just understand from the get-go that two cops and some neighbors would have been enough. lol, seriously.
your ass would have been the first suing the city if that idiot made his way into your house. grow up!

love.

Happened a little after 8 P.M. (at least that's when it started in our neighborhood. Shamrock no one peed in my cornflakes, I think its funny that when there is crime in the neighborhood and you call the police it can take them a couple hours to show up if they do show up, but a drunk kid steals a cop car and is subdued and it takes 10 extra cops to stand around for 20-30 minutes not doing anything.

Ryan I have no problem with having a lot of police out looking for the suspect, however 12 of the police vehicles arrived after the suspect was down, and at least 10 of those were not needed and once they knew the situation was under control should have went back to whatever they were doing before the call came in. And I should add that it was civilians that took him down, and held him until the police car in pursuit caught up. And I wouldn't have sued if the suspect made to my house, although he stole a police car, he was the criminal not the police, but he was also a little wimpy guy too drunk with his pants falling off to have been a threat, but even if he wasn't a wimpy guy, and he posed a threat, I wouldn't blame the cops because he stole their car. Nor would I have had a problem if the neighbor wasn't able to subdue him or the first cops on the scene couldn't subdue him, send as many as it takes, which in this case was probably 4 two to keep him subdued (one bringing the paddy wagon) two to secure the stolen police car and interview witnesses. (now I indicated that their were 14 police vehicles (including the stolen one, and that cop came in another car with another officer, and I think most of the cars only carried one officer, but some may have carried two (I didn't count the number of police, just the cars).

And lastly as I indicated above except for being way too many staying for way to long, the police were polite, and professional.

Bet this story won't make the paper...how embarrassing for this police officer.

Better 12 than 2.

I went to high school with him!

Probably one of the best athletes I've ever met, I'm shocked that neighbor was able to track him down.

Hilarious guy, but I think all of us who knew him figured it would end up like this for him. Sad, sad situation.

@busterbluth- he looked pretty wimpy when he was running in the field but I was probably 25 yards away, of course he was trying to keep his pants from falling off and was pretty drunk if not stoned, if he was a great athlete he hides it well.

I stand corrected...I'm glad this was reported. I imagine that cop with take a lot of ribbing from his coworkers for a drunk taking his car.

He scored 19 touchdowns, ran a 4.47 at a football camp, led our conference in rushing, and has 6 interceptions his senior year. He played college football too. Trust me he's a beast.

Now he might be able to add Ohio Department of Correction football league leading rusher for a few years to his resume of being a "beast"

Where did I say he was a decent human being? I wouldn't let him within 100m of my family.

You people are sounding like dumbasses right now.

The fight started inside El Camino. The suspect was drinking with his mother, who is an attractive lady, when some other guy commented that the suspect had landed a "cougar" that he'd also like to , ahem. . . you know. So, he hauls off and decks the guy, and a brawl breaks out.

Why do these classless ne'er do wells, white trash, redneck losers have to come to Toledo to cause trouble? We have enough people like this! Hey troublemakers please stay in your own respective cities is you want to cause problems! El Camino too! One of my favorite restaurants. How discouraging!

From what I've seen on a recent visit I would say toledo needs as many officers as they can. Crime was probably the biggest thing that has really been hurting the mood of citizen(that and no jobs). Perhaps other projects need to be dumped from they city budgets to fully stock the PD.

Instead of a tax payer like myself having to pay others even for more protection I would prefer that:

A) The citizens start acting more responsibly so that we can actually cut the police department down. Instead, Toledo seems to be gearing more programs towards attracting citizens to their base who are on entitlements and in need of social services often contributing to even more crime.

B) Continue to allow private citizens like myself the ability to protect ourselves through such programs as carry and conceal.

Racist much? It's ok when it's White people right?

Forgive me, I do not like it when any troublemakers give Toledo and its establishments a black eye. Makes me angry. The Fremont Nazis come up here to cause trouble now more folks from that way cause trouble. A shame. I guess I am white trash too, so it is OK, but I am a well behaved white-trash red neck.

For the record, his mom was pretty smokin' backin the day. Smoking and alcohol will ruin a life though.

You guys act like bar fights don't happen in every city. Get real.

anytime you add alcohol to a situation, it has the potential to get out of hand. Some people can't control themselves or behave. It's not limited to bars. Go to a sporting event where they serve alcohol. Yikes.

The trouble with alcohol is when you add it to certain people you get instant asshole.
