Both doors? does it have a child safety lock?

What year make and model is it and does it have electric locks?
If both rear doors and both inside and outside handles do not work, all at the same time, it sounds like the electric locks are in the "locked" position. This is more reasonable than all the little "rods" inside the doors falling off the handles at the same time on both doors.
Now, 2 things could happen now. First, you might be able to find a broke/worn wire on the locking switch on the front doors which is keeping the rear doors locked even when you press the unlock button.
If you can't find the wire problem, you could still gain access to the inside of the doors by removing the interior door panel. This is sometimes difficult while doors are shut.
A simple check, if you have electric door locks, is to have someone watch and listen to the "lock" thing on the back door while you press the "unlock" button in front. When you press it, they should be able to hear a "click" noise and the lock button should actually move into the unlocked position. If there is no noise and no motion, then it might be the wiring, fuse, etc.
One last thing to check is that some cars have a "lock-out" button on the drivers door as posted above. This button enables you to prevent operation of rear windows and doors when children are in back for safety. If this is "on" or "engaged", locks and windows will not work.
If none of this helps, please let me know and I'd be willing to help you out.

It's the child safety lock. I accidentally set it once while cleaning my car's interior. Pretty embarrassing at the repair shop. They joked about having to charge me $700 to fix it.
If it's not the child safety lock, I could sure try. Contact me at toledohockey1@yahoo.com
