The Evil Disneyland on Angola Road = wtf (photos)

We have talked about this place before, but never have we had photos...

Location: Angola Road, Holland Ohio - west of the High School.

Anyone have a clue? It's like a deranged evil Disney land. We sat and got a good look at the stuff, its pretty wicked. Even if this guy were a bleeding heart case for getting the kids back, with stuff like this where he lives I would NEVER give those kids back to anything so twisted.

O.k., I give up. What don't I know about this place that makes it evil and deranged? Is there a story behind this, besides obviously that the guy has had his grandkids taken and is mad as hell about it? I don't see that the stuff shown is necessarily evil or am I missing something? It all might be kind of eccentric, but I don't see moral turpitude here. Help me!

I think "evil" was meant to describe the imagery rather than making any moral judgments, since the place looks like the set of a Rob Zombie movie.

Hank is spot on - I am not making a moral judgement so much as this place looks pretty twisted.

I saw this place for the first time a while back and almost got in a car accident looking at it. I agree with OhioKimono - it's the scenery that is evil, not necessarily the background story. I think that part is very sad. The scenery is just incredibly creepy and could be a traffic hazard.

He recently cut down a bunch of trees and shrubbery which made the strangeness even more visible from the street.

Couple of thoughts:

This guy would get much more publicity if he had a life-like mannequin of the judge hanging and/or burning in one of those displays.

Is this Opal Covey's amusement park that she planned to have downtown?

This would be a great addition to this guy's Mini-Disneyland.

Saw "Puff" with the sign about LCCS stealing the boys in the Maumee Christmas parade 2 years ago. Certainly the city didn't know what they were getting when they allowed it in. It sure startled everyone to see a sign like that in the city holiday parade! This is the first I've seen any sort of explanation as to what it was about. Pretty bizarre.

Isn't this the local tea party's headquarters?

It's art, so what's the problem? I thought the Toledo area had a growing community of artists that we should support. If this art was displayed in downtown Toledo with a different political message, it would be a featured exhibit.

"It sure startled everyone to see a sign like that in the city holiday parade! Pretty bizarre."

Sometimes art jolts people's senses, especially activist art. Poems and paintings can do that too. Art is not created for everyone to like. Toughen up if you're offended by art.

OhioKimono, thanks for reminding us of the varied artistic creativity that exists in northwest Ohio.

...almost got in a car accident looking at it.

So naturally it's the owner's fault that you can't keep whatever passes for your mind on your driving and out of someone else's business. Ass.

These are some good photos. I'd like to see the results of a photo shoot with OhioKimono and a few models. With a little work this could be turned into something truly startling instead of vaguely disquieting.

Mind you, I wouldn't go on site alone and unarmed...

LMAO.

That is an absolutely perfect description.

I know the gentleman. Tom Anderson. He occaisionally runs for Springfield Township Trustee. Gets maybe 50 votes. He's a teriffic artist. And as some artists, he can be a bit "querky". Even with his obvious and unfounded misunderstanding of the dometic relations court system, I like and respect him. I also like his metal work.

His neighbors must love him for driving up property values in the area with his "artwork".

</end sarcasm>

Only thing missing is a '54 Ford pickup resting on cement blocks...of course with the hood open, featuring metal teeth...

Madjack....you so read my mind. I dont know if your joking or not...but honest to God I want permission to go onto the property and take quality shots. Who needs models, there is such wild stuff there. Someone needs to hook me up with a connection...

come on, a Mad Hatter Tea party surrounded by that stuff..

Great pics Mrs Kimono, the site is a bit eery. Curious of the person who owns it.

If your post hadn't begun with the title "evil" I might have considered hooking you up Ohio Kimono.

It would be nice to see his art recognized for what it is. The problem is separating it from those awful grandchildren messages. About all I can say about that is that it is protected free speech I guess.

posted by holland on Sep 27, 2011 at 07:57:29 am     #

If they're trying to get the grandkids back, the method of the message is likely working against them. It's disturbing "artwork" to me. And I consider myself fairly open-minded.

Yeah, "PAPA'S COMIN' BOYS" doesn't have the same heroic tone when written on the back of a hellish, saw-toothed, iron monster.

Holland it is evil looking - as stated prior Im not making a moral judgement. Its just wicked looking - the giant spider is prolly my favorite of it all.

The wife and I were sort of hoping they'd have more words from him, you know, what motivated him to start up his "art" collection, thoughts on his neighbors, things that would give better clues on his mental state.

I've been driving past there for 6 years or so on the way to and from work.

I think they're neat, but then again, my dad was a welder by trade and I weld as a hobby.

The stuff about the grandkids is over the top, but the other sculptures are pretty cool and not easily put together.
