If it is in reference to this story, yes, it's very sad.

http://www.wtol.com/story/15689745/toledo-man-admits-to-stabbing-his-dog-six-times

As the article notes, the state will never get legislation passed to make animal cruelty a felony so long as you have veterinary lobbying groups using their power to defeat it. Very sad.

So the dog bit him on the finger. Many dogs, particularly when they're young, are food aggressive. You just have to train them not to be that way. Poor dog.

yep, that's the link above to the WTOL FB story.

It is sad. The punishment is equal to when a parent doesn't send their kid to school. max 6 months/$1000 fine.

I have an 11 year boxer I took in and was told she was food aggressive. I have kids 4-12 years old around her. She has never once tried anything around these kids. Granted I do take her out of the room and feed her to keep her preoccupied. The boxer has been here almost 2 years now and has become part of our family.

(we already had a puggle since birth and he was 9, so this was our 2nd dog)

And also, dogs arent meant to be a possession, but rather a being thats meant to be loved and give love. ppl make me sick when they choose a breed to showcase some kind of "bad-ass" status that they want to portray.

"...dogs arent meant to be a possession, but rather a being thats meant to be loved and give love."

Yes. This dog was only a year old. It didn't deserve to get stabbed six times in the face and neck by his owner. I can't imagine what he was thinking as his owner was killing him. He had already fled to the basement in fear of the owner when the guy killed him. I feel so bad for this dog. If he didn't want the dog for this reason, he could have taken it to the pound to have it humanely destroyed, at the very least.

It's not that uncommon what this guy did, sadly, when it comes to misguided owners killing a pet. I've heard a co-worker proudly proclaim that his father broke the neck of a cat that had nipped him when he was a child. It wasn't even his cat, but his aunt's, who they were visiting. I swear, if anyone broke the neck of my pet because it took a nip at their kid while visiting me, there would be hell to pay! So many assholes out there when it comes to pets.

now it looks like he is crying self defense???? how???? did he get bit, go to the er and then come back home to do this?

If thats the case, by that time, the dog would have forgotten about the incident and (similar to how u put it) wondered why his owner was acting this way.

Yes there are ppl out there that dont mind taking animal control into their own hands (taking em out back to put em outta their misery)...i dont condone it...especially in the example you gave.

this dog was still a pup (1.5 years = what 10 dog - years, i think)

i swear i could really hurt people like this. not the answer, but would make me feel good.
renegade - what do you mean about the vets being against making it a felony?

This crime should carry more punishment. It makes no sense at all. Of course anyone killing anything is bad (I wont include hunting or farming for sake of arguement) It takes a feeble person to kill a pet.

I can understand if a farm family raises pigs or turkeys to actually harvest them to be eaten. It would still be weird "having" them around knowing their purpose is a positive. That I can understand and accept.

To have a PET, in your life and home, as a part of your family...I cant fathom me or that being ever having to result to fighting/biting, if you will...then leading to a crime and the dog being dead.

I think I forgot exact point???

Excuse me for a moment, I have 2 dogs that need some loving from their owner!!!

I have a real big problem with people who mistreat animals (ahem Mike Vick) and this guy needs to rot in some place very unpleasant. With that said, I also have a problem with the laws and how the local agencies operate.

I have been going round and round with the local Humane Society who refuses to take any action in a case of neglect that has been going on for over a year.

A neighbor moved OVER A YEAR AGO and left two dogs outdoors on the property. The dogs get fed maybe once a week by the owner (daily by me), have insect scabs all over them, are losing hair and bark all night long. If they were not aggressive towards my dogs, I would have taken them in months ago.

The dogs deserve so much better but since the laws are crap the Humane Society says they have no claim and do nothing.

Sorry for the rant but I am sickened by all of this. Animals, dogs especially, are some of the last creatures on this planet that are capable of true unconditional love and should receive nothing but the same in return.

What a bastard, so the dog bit him, it happens, the fact that he took the time to call 911 and then went to basement where dog was hiding shows it wasn't self defense it was cold calculated killing. I say give him the max.

I think the problem is that anybody can own a dog. Sort of like the "any fool can make a baby, but it takes a man to raise a child" idea, I think it extends to dogs too. It's almost like there should be a required course for people to take, and you can only own certain breeds if you've gone through enough classes. That way we wouldn't have deadbeats owning dogs that require a higher level of training. Like many have said, certain breeds get a bad rap because they're popular among worthless owners who don't deserve to have them in the first place.
